Camera in pocket-there's an old Corsair driver speaking this morning (not that there's a lot of young corsair drivers)-Bob's good as long as he stays away from my wife-she didn't appreciate the humor in his Christmas card this year:S

It's a great museum.

Totally agree. This is probably the best aviation museum in the country (not just saying so 'cause i'm Navy). There is some great history in that place, to include all the plaques that once hung on the wall of the famous Cubi-Point (philipines) Officers Club. It was once custom during a deployment to put up a plaque with all the aviators names and call signs on it. If you visit the museum, spend some time to read some of these. There are some pretty famous poeples names on that wall.

Mine is there in two places ;)

I believe that is exactly why you're saying so. It's a great aviation museum, but not the best.

Wish that I had known to look for your name. I was amazed at what they've done with the museum and recommend it to anyone passing through the area. After mt F14 simulator experience, it makes sense that I've never finished my pilot's ticket[:/] Bob was, as always, a fantastic host and a hug from PsychoPatti is worth a trip of any duration..

So, what's your favorite so I can put it on my list. I respect your judgment in all but politics:P:P:D:D:D

AF Museum at Wright Patterson for comprehensiveness, Smithsonian if you want to see historic aircraft and spacecraft, both military and civilian. If you're in Europe, Duxford is the best.

The Boeing Museum of Flight at Boeing Field in Seattle is pretty interesting. It has an amazing range of aircraft from the last 100 years.

Yep. It has that M21 variant of the Blackbird, with the D21 reconnaissance drone piggy-backed on it.

Here's the D-21 at the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson. They don't have an M-21, but that's a YF-12A, predessor of the SR-71, in the background.

Technically, this is the D-21B, which was designed to be carried by a B-52H, following some unsuccessful M-21 launches.

Destroying the plane and killing one of the crew might well be called "unsuccessful".

There were actually some successful launches, but, yes, I take your point that that particular one was a spectacular, deadly failure.B|

I have heard some great things about the Naval Avation museum at Pensacola I'd like to go sometime.

I doubt it has the collection that the National Museum of the US Air Force has... It is probably one of the largest collections of historic military aircraft especially if you consider the Presidential hangers.

Which includes a presidential aircraft that was at one time used for parachute operations at the US Air Force Academy. http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=572

They also have the Excelsior Gondola effectively the highest step in the world in the back of the museum.

I can't say anything about the Smithsonian but I imagine it has a lot of space assets and comercial avatiation which the Air Force Museum doesn't have...
