NorCal Skydiving Dec - Jan, or lack there of

Recommended Posts

Weather hasn't been this bad (for skydiving) in the four years I've been jumping up here. Last jump was on December 6th. For those of us not able to get out during the one or two week days its been nice, this is insane.

This is not what I signed up for in Cali.

Ok I'm done complaining. At least I just bought a house I can paint.:)

Other than the 17 jumps I got in our 4 days in Eloy for the Holiday Boogie, I've only done four jumps since the beginning of November (one in December and three in January). I didn't sign up for this, either... I might as well move back to Seattle! :o

And the next two weeks are looking pretty awful. [:/]

Wahhh wahhh wahhhh

I remember some TDY's to the airbases around Suckramento back in the 70's where there was ice fog for a couple months on end. I know better than go there in the winter expecting good weather. I have also spent some soggy times in So Cal in the winter too... so suck it up cupcake.

Oh, I expect no sympathy. If the worst case scenario is that I don't get to jump again till Belize ... well, that's not *so* bad. B|

I'm down to Burbank pretty much every week for work, so if SoCal improves before we do, it's easy enough to finagle an extended trip that includes some weekend time.

Seems the Byron jumpers are the only norcal jumpers that figured out Hollister has been jumping every weekend... we've even been seeing some back-to-backs filled with up jumpers! Today was the first day we've missed in quite some time...

Oh no!!! I'm about to move to Pleasanton in two weeks!! Been some crappy wx in Houston too, and between all of my tooth problems and wx I haven't gotten a jump in since November. But somebody already stated what I was doing to say-- at least there is a tunnel in the area out there. I can't wait to get back on some tunnel crack. B|
Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Knew Hollister has been escaping the fog. Might just have to make it down that way if it continues. I don't think anyone will escape this rain though.

however...I think we might actually get a pond now in Byron. :)

The pond will be awesome for a couple weekends so I expect you to bank that canopy over rather than just swoop end to end ;) ANYone on a cross brace or Crossfire can go end to end so put it on it's side and show some finesse!

Hollister kicked ass. I only dread not going there earlier in the day to make more loads. It was fun packing in the short bus once for nostalgia's sake too :D

Next time that thing dries out yall need to rent a dozer.... and extend it a bit.... and then line that bad boy with a pond liner so it keeps the water around for a while;)

Welcome to El-nino. It's like this every 5 to 6 years. I did 8 in Dec, I'm about 20 for Jan but I've been fighting for them.....

When one of the most active tandem instructors at one of the largest DZ's in NorCal only gets in 8 jumps in a month, that tells you right there just how bad the weather has been :(

I've made two jumps over this time period--one at Byron on Dec 20 and one at SkyDance on Jan 14. Unfortunately I find that the focus, when jumps become this infrequent, tends to shift simply to making a jump or two to stay legal and current, rather than actually trying to learn anything new.

I'm hoping we get some solid good weather soon so I can get back to learning.

I've been averaging 10-12 jumps a weekend right now, and that's WITH the weather... as for working, not so much has been going on... but it's been enough to pay off all the fun jumps I've been doing in between.

And hell yes to packing on the short bus, it's even more fun to step it up a notch and pack on the blue van!

Also, if this is the unofficial pre-registration for the Byron swoop meet, sign me up.

:D Planning any type of swoop meet at byron is slightly more difficult than Tim's wing over. But If I were a betting man the next Saturday with "clear below one two thousand" on AWOS will bring the swooping crew out to check out the pond.

This is assuming some of this rain actually falls in Byron. Weather is just odd out there this winter.

I wonder who started the whole packing in the van thing in hollister ;)

That was actually my first ride in the short bus. Yeah yeah.. beer, first ... riding in a bus isn't skydiving related :P
