Zep 0 #1 January 20, 2010 On the early news this morning. (Spain) People pay donating to a solidary fund to help Haiti are being charged commision on the donation they make, A reporter went to all the major banks to donate 10€ and asked if they would charge commision. To a tee they all answerd yes and the commision ranged between 3-7€ for each transaction. When confronted the banks said a mistake hade been made and the account numbers haden't been marked as a solidary fund. Then again I soppose their is nothing new about banks making a profit out of others pain and misery. Gone fishing
warpedskydiver 0 #2 January 20, 2010 It is the way of the world, to donate and really make it count, act locally, think globally. Doing something in person or organizing a true mission to help that goes without any compensation is the key. I know a few jumpers who have done exactly that in the past. Instead of donating dollars that would be stolen, they just went and put in deep wells for fresh water, diarrhea is almost eradicated, kids are drinking fresh water, can clean themselves and have clean clothing. Same for buildng a comms center

JohnMitchell 16 #4 January 20, 2010 Many charities have very high overhead. These bankers are just a little too obvious. As a federal employee, we have a catalog of charities we can donate to via payroll deduction. Listed with each charity is the % of money that goes to overhead and expenses, an interesting number to say the least. That's one reason why Valinda and I are so proud of our Leap for Lupus fundraiser every year. By using volunteer labor and paying expenses out of pocket, 100% of our donations collected go straight to lupus medical research at the University of Washington.
