highfly 0 #1 January 19, 2010 Just caught a little segment on our news about Laszlo Csizmadia swooping through the Hole in the Rock in the Bay of Islands in New Zealand. The hole in the rock is detailed in the following URl. If I get a chance to capture it Ill upload the vid to Skydiving movies.com http://farm1.static.flickr.com/42/86782510_27ca29249b.jpg Big ups to Laszlo Csizmadia as the hole aint that large. www.myspace.com/durtymac

highfly 0 #4 January 19, 2010 Id go dirty low and fast as theres nice big Mako swimming in there. Lots and lots of fish feed round there and bring in some large predators. I think there has even been some Great White too. Heres a bit of a better Pic I took of the hole a few years back http://www.flickr.com/photos/durtymac/431996830/ www.myspace.com/durtymac

BillyVance 35 #9 January 19, 2010 I'm not sure if it's the same hole, but was it used in the 1970's King Kong movie?"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

I checked IMDB's page for that movie (Jeff Bridges/Jessica Lange version) and the details show that scenes were filmed on Kauai, the westernmost Hawaiian island.... I wasn't sure because in that movie, the water level was lower or the hole was higher... Guess I'll have to check google earth to see if Kauai has their own hole in the rock."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

Yep, Kauai has its own hole in the rock, up on the rocky northwestern shore, maybe two of them... one is shown with the bottom underwater and the other above water... based on photographs marked there."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

skymama 37 #17 January 19, 2010 I saw that on our local news today. They promoded it as a "failed skydiving world record attempt".She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
highfly 0 #18 January 19, 2010 Well shame its reported as "failed" as its never been done before. So is it a true fail? Ive been through that hole maybe 3 -4 times and it must of took some balls to do it. Still think its pretty damn cool though www.myspace.com/durtymac

Does anyone have an English translation for what the news Sheila said? That's Kelly, she said it took a lot of organising and prep work to be allowed to attempt it. No one has done it and she is hope that others (WITH APPROPRIATE EXPEREINCE) will come and try it. IF you ever make it to NZ north Isle, pay a visit to her DZ, she's the owner, "Ballistic Blondes Skydiving"You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! Cashmanimal 0 #21 January 20, 2010 1st: That's very cool/fun 2nd: 4 years seems like a long time to prepare and organize for a swoop that made it but a fraction of the way through this hole; this gave me a very empty feeling. On the whole I'm not impressed at all... jealous, yes but I would have been pretty mad if I woke up at 5:30am to watch that. I must be one of those skydivers that "doesn't like to get up early." It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye

I kinda agree... Super cool, yes. Super impressive, no. I think I'd rather watch a swoop comp. It took 4 years to plan??? really??? There are some swoopers at my DZ that would try it tomorrow. I would like to know what the distance is from end to end and if the long distance swoop record is greater or close, anyone know?*I am not afraid of dying... PLANNING means getting all the required approvals from the ANAL authories, so that they dont get arrested for doing it. As media was there i would say it was also done in an effort to increase POSITIVE awareness of skydiving in the local area. I'd still rather watch a good swoop comp, or some of the guys at the DZ swoop in and land on the back of the trailer while its going 30 mph around a corner. How about they hold a comp to see who can get the farthest through it, now that would be fun to watch. Not sure where your "lounge chair heroes" comment was going, I didn't really see any posts of anyone trying to talk themselves up.*I am not afraid of dying...
