Davy and Kelly got a bit of face time there too.
If any of you lot get to UNZED, visit the North Isle and go jump at Balistic Blondes Skydiving, the owners are good people.:)

I'm not sure if it's the same hole, but was it used in the 1970's King Kong movie?

was the 70s movie filmed in new zealand?

Hmmm... I checked IMDB's page for that movie (Jeff Bridges/Jessica Lange version) and the details show that scenes were filmed on Kauai, the westernmost Hawaiian island....

I wasn't sure because in that movie, the water level was lower or the hole was higher... Guess I'll have to check google earth to see if Kauai has their own hole in the rock.

Yep, Kauai has its own hole in the rock, up on the rocky northwestern shore, maybe two of them... one is shown with the bottom underwater and the other above water... based on photographs marked there.

Nice video.

Does anyone have an English translation for what the news Sheila said?

That's Kelly, she said it took a lot of organising and prep work to be allowed to attempt it. No one has done it and she is hope that others (WITH APPROPRIATE EXPEREINCE) will come and try it.

IF you ever make it to NZ north Isle, pay a visit to her DZ, she's the owner, "Ballistic Blondes Skydiving"

1st: That's very cool/fun

2nd: 4 years seems like a long time to prepare and organize for a swoop that made it but a fraction of the way through this hole; this gave me a very empty feeling. On the whole I'm not impressed at all... jealous, yes :P but I would have been pretty mad if I woke up at 5:30am to watch that. I must be one of those skydivers that "doesn't like to get up early." :)

It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye

I kinda agree... Super cool, yes. Super impressive, no. I think I'd rather watch a swoop comp. It took 4 years to plan??? really??? There are some swoopers at my DZ that would try it tomorrow.

I would like to know what the distance is from end to end and if the long distance swoop record is greater or close, anyone know?

:S:S:S
PLANNING
means getting all the required approvals from the ANAL authories, so that they dont get arrested for doing it.
As media was there i would say it was also done in an effort to increase POSITIVE awareness of skydiving in the local area.

Loads of lounge chair heroes on here:D:D:D

Oh... 4 years to get all the permits etc.... huh. I'd still rather watch a good swoop comp, or some of the guys at the DZ swoop in and land on the back of the trailer while its going 30 mph around a corner.

How about they hold a comp to see who can get the farthest through it, now that would be fun to watch.

Not sure where your "lounge chair heroes" comment was going, I didn't really see any posts of anyone trying to talk themselves up.
