piisfish 140 #53 February 12, 2010 they ditched the "extra crew" to save weight. 1 penalty for Alinghi start in 50 secondsscissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
rhys 0 #54 February 12, 2010 Just familiarising myself with these new boats and crews. A strong Kiwi contingent on Oracle, not just russell but a shitload more too. Go USA or is it New Zealand and Italy with a hint of Aussie and a dash of USA.Professionalism/Money has kinda spoiled the fun. Awesome boats though! piisfish 140 #55 February 12, 2010 for the moment Alinghi showed more ability to manoeuvre in light wind.... Looking forward to seeing the BOR fly with its massive wing. got my laptop besides my double screen at work. But the Cup is definitely Kiwi. (6/14 on Alinghi)scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
LongWayToFall 0 #57 February 12, 2010 Looks like BOR just took the lead!! Man they are hauling. I think this is the complete outcome of the Cup, in one little sample right here.
LongWayToFall 0 #58 February 12, 2010 BOR lowered their jib just for the hell of it, and still gaining?
piisfish 140 #59 February 12, 2010 Yup, the BOR is just even more incredible than Alinghi. I'd prefer Alinghi to win.. But if BOR wins on the water, so be it. It's sailing. In order to win, you need to have a second (even if the second is the first loser)scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
piisfish 140 #60 February 12, 2010 QuoteBOR lowered their jib just for the hell of it, and still gaining?they might want to keep the contact to be in control. Remember Alinghi still has a penalty to repair.scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
piisfish 140 #61 February 12, 2010 Quote What range of wind speed is best for these boats? It will be lame if they don't get to really haul ass. What is the minimum for flying a hull on both boats? Quote So USA is making 26 knots downwind and seem to consistently be able to fly their windward hulls for longer, peaking now at 28.5 knots of boat speed. is that fast enough for you ?? scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
wayneflorida 0 #62 February 12, 2010 What a beat down. 10 minutes with penalty. I don't think three races is much of a series but the Swiss will be glad.

These races are yacht club against yacht club, not nation vs. nation. BMW Oracle is a racing team of GGYC in which the CEO is a member. Who cares what the nationality of members. It's about which club they belong to._____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

EVerybody will be happy that the Cup will probably be won/lost on water and not in court. The massive performance of the BOR kills the interest of match racing, but well, nobody will blame them for not putting the brakes on just for the interest of race tactics. Congratulations to BOR Sailing Team and Design Team for this first race scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
piisfish 140 #65 February 14, 2010 seems the Cup will be going back to the US at least it is done on the water .. now maybe GGYC might lose it in Court scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
