America Cup 33 .. the race of the Titans

I'm conflicted as to whether the Cup should remain as the classic mono-hull or whether it's true advancement of the sport to keep the option open.

Dennis Conner wasn't so sure of that either in the past!!

How do the sailors control the sails? Automatically? My Dad brought up a good point, as we have both sailed catamarans, that it is quite a challenge consistently flying the hull a small amount. I would imagine with sails that move slowly such as these massive boats, that it would be very hard to make the small adjustments that need to be made.

I have no clue how fast they can move them, but for sure both big beauties can fly a hull (or 2 for the BOR) and both sailing teams do know how to adjust them. Even if they are both still very experimental.

Alinghi got to fly a hull on the 1st test run they did, and even got a flyby by our Porter (1'40'' on the video) www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPef0qbNFWM

in 20 hours time we will hopefully get to see the sexiest race

I'd like to see ALL power used during the race, for any purpose (whether electronics, hydraulics, moving ballast, whatever) come either from humans or be extracted from the wind and waves during the race.

That would develop some neat technology.

It looks promising this morning. Race committee are looking to make the most of a 'window of opportunity' and are heading to a start point 30nm to the north of Valencia, 8nm off the coast at Burriana, just to the south of Castellon. Alinghi 5 and BMW...

Committee Boat : 190° 6 knots | Top Mark : 200° 6 knots It's looking

yup, looking good, plus that would be more of a Alinghi wind. The BOR seem to be happier with stronger wind.
