rhys 0 #26 February 6, 2010 QuoteI'm conflicted as to whether the Cup should remain as the classic mono-hull or whether it's true advancement of the sport to keep the option open. LongWayToFall 0 #27 February 7, 2010 How do the sailors control the sails? Automatically? My Dad brought up a good point, as we have both sailed catamarans, that it is quite a challenge consistently flying the hull a small amount. I would imagine with sails that move slowly such as these massive boats, that it would be very hard to make the small adjustments that need to be made. piisfish 140 #28 February 7, 2010 I have no clue how fast they can move them, but for sure both big beauties can fly a hull (or 2 for the BOR) and both sailing teams do know how to adjust them. Even if they are both still very experimental. Alinghi got to fly a hull on the 1st test run they did, and even got a flyby by our Porter (1'40'' on the video) www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPef0qbNFWM in 20 hours time we will hopefully get to see the sexiest racescissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
kallend 2,150 #29 February 7, 2010 I'd like to see ALL power used during the race, for any purpose (whether electronics, hydraulics, moving ballast, whatever) come either from humans or be extracted from the wind and waves during the race. That would develop some neat technology.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
piisfish 140 #30 February 8, 2010 that would be interesting indeed, you should make suggestions for AC34 Originally the BOR had no engines, wonder how tired the were when they first raised the sails scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

LongWayToFall 0 #43 February 12, 2010 What range of wind speed is best for these boats? It will be lame if they don't get to really haul ass. What is the minimum for flying a hull on both boats?
