Gardner beating Karelin in 2000. The magnitude of that upset was simply amazing.

Blues,
Dave

Sure was, and on another almost equally impressive note was Kurt Angle winning the gold medal with a broken neck at the Atlanta games. :S

I forgot about the 1998 US Men's hockey team's 4 a.m. performance in Nagano. :P

Totally trashed the hotel they were staying in? Not the first time something like that happened. I think the Dream Team did it too during the summer olympics, but I forget where and when.

I think the thread has to acknowledge Jesse Owens.

Yep, I would love to know what the hell Hitler was thinking when he draped each gold medal around Jesse's neck.

Didn't put the medals around his neck? I think I've seen video taken at the Berlin Olympics that indicate he did. ETA: and he was NOT smiling.

I don't think so. I don't have time to look it up right now, but if memory serves, Adolf walked out.

Wouldn't be surprised if he did. Some people just can't handle being wrong.

Yeah. Dictators. They're so moody that way.

On the first day of the Olympics, Hitler was congratulating all the German athletes.

After the first day, the Olympic committee said he would have to congratulate all the athletes or none of them. He chose to congratulate non of them.

He never had any interaction with Owens.
