OK... You guys are bumming me out. I'll take the avocados from Bill, and I'll just say thank you.... with no cats or boobies. :P

Hey... I have to buy mine... BUT they had a dozen for $5.00 at the store today. The only problen is the little Hass Avacado prunes from CA.

I wish I could find some of the BIG tropical bright green ones my great grandma had on the HUGE trees her yard in Florida. They were also a great shade tree.. but MAN... when a wind would knock them off onto the roof in the afternoon thurderstorms.. it would rattle the whole house...these things were about or 8" long and almost 6" wide. OH MAN were those tasty.:)

Hey be nice! I'm right here you know!

But any how, as much as this pile on is fun, some of kicks to the shin are not.

Shah - sad to say, kicking your shins has become a bit of a favourite pastime around here. I swear some people open your threads just for that purpose. :|

I might have a dig from time to time, but on the whole I find your posts less offensive than many that have been directed at you!

But thank you. :)
Well noticed a neighbor was stuck in the snow, went over and shoveled her car and pushed her out. She said thanks. It was nice. :)

No thank you for all the help you provided with Mr. Rossy.
Shame it didn't pan out!
But I did get 100 hand written thank you letters from the kids. Shame I couldn't show them a high def version of his flight.

Absolutely right. But I could dig out dozens of posts from the Bonfire where other people are doing exactly that, without getting panned for it.

I get reminded everyday I don't live in the world I was born into. In stores and restaurants I always say, "May I have," instead of, "Can I get," and that usually goes okay. But one day I stopped to hold open a door for two teenage girls and under her breath one of them called me a, "Perv!"

May I have ... is much more polite, in my book and that's would I would always say (Can I get .. just sounds rude to me).

As for holding a door open, I'd do that ANYONE ... just shows our age I guess.

Those young 'ladies' should have their bitches ... whoops true colours coming out:$

I don't think door holding is simply a masculine gesture. I too will hold doors open for anyone exiting/entering at the same time as I am....

I still hold the door for people. Especially ladies with kids or the elderly.
The older people always smile and say thanks.
The ladies with kids.....well they are at their whits end. I just hope they remember me and not try and kill with their minivans while I'm on my bike.

Kids learn everything from their parents....

Parents these days.... SHEESH!!!!

As a parent I believe in my kids respecting people. Not just grown ups or elders. Everyone. I believe that hand written thank you's should still be sent when they receive a gift. I basically pass on all the things I was taught. I believe this has been lost somewhere along the way.....

And I apologize for the thread hijack... but this is somewhat related! :)

While we're on it, I think it's rude when the store cashier doesn't say "thank you" when you ring something up. Seems to be done (to me) more by kids still in their sullen teens, and more often in downtown/urban areas than the suburbs. I also don't like when the cashier just says "$13.95 [end of sentence]", instead of $13.95, please." Bad training by the managers AFAIC.

And come to think of it, I also think it's rude and presumptuous (if not downright disrespectful) when a service person on the other end of the phone line presumes to address me by my first name, instead of "Mr....". I think that, most of the time, anyone on the phone who is otherwise a stranger to the speaker and is not obviously a child is deserving of this courtesy.

Suddenly I don't sound to crazy hu?

Sure, people should say thank you when appropriate. Nobody said you sounded crazy. But a lot of people have suggested that you sound like a guy who gives women unwanted attention. That message is not diminished by subsequent thread-drift.

I treat every one as I wish to be treated.
Be it from saying thank you, to noticing little things and trying to be of some help regardless of gender race or creed. It's how I was raised.
