BoardHead's remind me of the early days of Formation Skydiving. Cheering each other on regardless of team or nationality; congratulating the best; coaching each other with the "secret stuff" so everybody could get better. I think until very recently that still was evident in FreeFly and CReW. Fortunately, I think FS is getting back to that again.

It's all about the "community" of competitors.

I don't know if the American's were able to see the entire event live as I did. It's too bad if they didn't. I'm not necessarily a Vonn fan (national pride and all that), but, as a former Downhill racer, I have to give credit where it's due.

1) She was absolutely superb on the DH, and, more importantly (IMHO),

2) The look on her face, from the bottom of the course, when her closest competitor (Austrian) caught mega-air, was worth more than any Gold Medal in my books. Her unrehearsed look of fear as she witnessed what was about to happen; and her genuine physical reaction of concern for a fellow competitor when she saw the crash, has not received the media attention I think she deserves. Ms. Vonn is one classy lady.

How about the Swiss hockey team nearly pulling off a huge upset last night! The way Hiller was playing for them in goal I think Canada was very lucky to get the win in the shoot-out. I wasn't pleased with some of the things Canada was doing last night. They have a lot of work to do in order to beat the US on Sunday night.

And, how about the Slovakian men's hockey team beating the Russians 2-1 last night....that was a pretty big upset to my mind.

Speaking of redemption....I see Bode Miller won Silver in Men's Super G today. That's 2 medals for him at these Olympics.

While watching the Skeleton I couldn't help but notice that some of the helmets they are wearing look exactly like Z1's only with fancier paint jobs. Anyone else notice this?

Edited to add: Ice dancing may be boring...but as someone who competed in it for 6 years it is incredibly hard. With the compulsory dance everyone is doing the same thing. Something as simple as forgetting to point your toes can cause you to lose. You have to think about what every finger and every toe is doing.

I just watched the entire Nordic track x-c ski event. 30 Kilometers to finish, guys reaching their physical limit.....now that's a REAL Olympic event.

I have been watching many Olympic events through the CTV website (I do not think US residents are allowed access to this same site) and it is very interesting. First off I have access to watching the events live as they occur (well there is a short 30-60 second delay from the actual live action), I get to watch all the competitors not just the ones the TV networks want me to see and the best part in all of this, is that there are no TV play by play commentators. It is nothing but raw footage of the athletes and their performances. The only downside is that there are still advertisements placed in between each athlete's performance. But that is a small price to pay to shut up the TV play by play commentators.
