OK, my kids are younger and tonight we watched the 1981 version of Clash of the Titans. The queen fucks up and insults one of the gods. She's pissed and demands, "On the eve of the longest day of the year blah...blah...blah..." Andromeda will be sacrificed to the Kraken "unknown to man, a virgin."

Does the big green beast really give a crap if she's a virgin? Would it really matter to someone his, ummmm..size? Kind of reminded me of that old joke about why you wrap hamsters in electrical tape.

I suspect that, historically speaking, virgins to sacrifice were: 1) gals tagged by the priest and put to death so they wouldn't tell, 2) gals who wouldn't put out for the priest, or 3) used as extortion leverage for monetary gain from the mom/pop of the virtuous young lass (pay the gods 2 months of acorns and a handful of seashells or I can't protect your kid from Growler, the ever hungry virgin eater...)
