npgraphicdesign 3 #1 March 1, 2010 Weather aside, which city is better overall? Let's say for the following person: 30, male, single, looking for a job in the creative/design/advertising field. Thoughts? And try not to be biased since you can obviously skydive more in LA then NYC.
Squeak 17 #2 March 1, 2010 weather and climate are extremely important, they effect the people and mood of the cities. I'd choose LA over NYC simply because of life style choicesYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing? quade 4 #3 March 1, 2010 So many tradeoffs and variables; Housing - you'll probably live further away from where you work in LA. It -may- be slightly less expensive to live a LOT further away, but with that comes . . . Transportation - you'll probably need to own a car in LA. It's not that people are too lazy to walk or too proud to take public, it simply is too spread out and the little public transportation there is probably doesn't go where you need to go. In LA, car = life. With the car comes extra costs like insurance, parking and the occasional ticket. Job market - not sure what market is like in NYC, but currently it's depressed in LA. Good luck finding anything. Lastly - hooking up. You can hook up anywhere but consider this; http://www.creativeclass.com/creative_class/2007/04/03/the-singles-map/ Looks slightly easier on the east coast.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

skydiver30960 0 #7 March 2, 2010 The thread I was hoping for was something along the lines of "which city would win in an all-out, gang-type, turf war?" I just imagine millions of New Yorkers and Angelinos wielding baseball bats, chains, and guns and strutting across the country towards a final confrontation somewhere in the midwest. quade 4 #8 March 2, 2010 The people from LA would be driving. They'd get there in about 12 hours and be ready. Meanwhile, the folks from NYC would be trying to get on busses or taxis or something. One thing is certain, neither would take an airplane -- that's flyover country.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

AggieDave 6 #13 March 2, 2010 Ok, you want me to sell you on Austin...do you know what Aggie in AggieDave is for?Seriously, though, if I was a graphic design guy that wanted to live in the Central Texas Hill Country, where I can live out of the city and be there in under an hour or live in a bigger city, then that would be it. Great night life, singles scene, neat part of Texas, with in a day's drive to Dallas, Houston and very close to San Antonio. You have the ability to access many different markets for your talents and skills. Austin is also a hub of technology in Texas. If I was the kind of person looking at LA or NYC for the reasons you listed, I would take a long hard look at Austin as an alternative. No state income tax is also nice. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

LA is the far more competitive of the two. Now, if you want to talk about which city has more chicks in a book club . . . sure . . .
