gemini 0 #1 March 4, 2010 With more big way jumpers coming to the states to participate in large formations, I thought I would use an on-line translation site so I could post information in Russian, Ukrainian, Polish and Spanish, etc. thinking it would be helpful to the non-English speakers, but it may have made things worse. Iilya Kats from San Marcos sent me a very funny retranslation from Russian back to English of one of my emails so I thought I would test the translations myself. English to Russian to English: Hello my friend. How have you been? We are currently having great weather in Texas for skydiving. High temperature in the high 60's low 70's. You should come jump with us. Check you later, Jim. Привет, мой друг. Каким ты был? В настоящее время мы с большой погоды в Техасе для прыжков с парашютом. Harmless 0 #3 March 4, 2010 Actually seems like a pretty decent translation for being done by a computer... Language translation is not an exact science, especially considering you are also translating translations. The computer can also not take context or the original message into account."Damn you Gravity, you win again"
faulknerwn 38 #4 March 5, 2010 My old company used to have an office in Japan, and a coworker of mine had great fun translating things into Japanese and back. His name - Brad when translated to Japanese and back comes up as Shellfish hooked nail :-) It was a standard game to translate any emails to Japanese and back and see what happened..
