Rstanley0312 1 #1 March 8, 2010 So I'm now getting life ins. for my future wife and she has made 2 jumps and will probably go through her AFF this season. I'm asked about it and I tell them and the agent who I know quite well asks me..... "will she be doing any stunts in the air or passing a baton?" I freakin lost it. THe insurance world really has no idea. I told him well not a baton but maybe a space ball and perhaps an exit from the plane in an inflatable of some type. He did not know what to say.Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. riddler 0 #8 March 8, 2010 That really is the problem with insurance when it comes to modern sports. They have no clue how to handle them, so they use statistics from decades ago. If the insurance industry saw the relative statistics today, I think they would have much less of a problem with skydiving. I wouldn't be surprised if they asked "do you use a belly-mount reserve for safety?" Another question you see in scuba - do you ever go below 30 feet depth? If so, it's considered "deep diving". Well, that may have been true forty years ago, but the RSTC has defined deep as 60 feet today, and unless you only dive in your backyard pool, you're probably going to at least 80 feet on a given dive trip. Doesn't make it any more dangerous statistically - better training and equipment keep divers safer at depth today.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. JohnRich 4 #9 March 8, 2010 Quote the agent asks me..... "will she be doing any stunts in the air or passing a baton?" Well, she could put an eye out with one of those batons, so you might have to pay more for loss of vision coverage.

Nothing special about it. As far as the barbie w/crew dogs, well... back in the day I've passed beers, joints, pipes, and lighters back and forth... so how hard can it be? Randomly f'n thingies up since before I was born...

topdocker 0 #17 March 8, 2010 I tried years ago for disability insurance. After getting the "batton pass" question, I asked to speak to the underwriter and have them explain the question to me on the phone. That poor guy had no clue what a "batton pass" was or "steerable reserve" or any other terms that were clearly from the "Gypsy Moths." They gave me a quote that was double the normal rate, and didn't include any skydiving related injuries, including driving to the airport, flying on a commercial aircraft to a skydiving event, etc. The underwriter pointed out that is was a matter of "risky behavior," not just the skydiving. He told me this after he bragged about his driving his motorcycle to work in the rain.I kept my money. I told them that their actuary was so dated that it was unreliable. It gave a very poor reflection of the company. top Jump more, post less!

jumpwally 0 #20 March 9, 2010 "no clue " as a generalization that may be somewhat acurate but don't kid yourself on not having current stats,,,,,,I have a buddy that is an actuary, along with his wife. They both work for one of the largest Insurance Companies we hear about here in the US. I've had this discussion with them before,,,not only do they have current stats, they also know what the medical costs are when you don't kill yourself,,,,thanx to you swoopers,,,More surprising than anything , is that there is not a master list provided by some enterprising skydiver that contains all needed info on premium ins companies that do provide coverage to us and their contact info. smile, be nice, enjoy life FB # - 1083
