Iceburner 0 #1 March 16, 2010 Hey everyone, just wanted some advice from people who have been away from skydiving for a long time and got back into it. I was deployed for just shy of a year (was supposed to be 7 months, then the EQ in Haiti extended it), so it's been about that long since i have jumped Anyways, i checked my gear tonight and it looks good...going to take it to a rigger this weekend and have them inspect it/repack the reserve, etc. But for jumping (i own a saber 2, 120...which is just shy of 2:1) would you all recommend me buying another canopy/rig with a larger main or just spend the little extra for the first few weeks/months and rent a bigger main? i know i'm not ready to jump what i own, but as far as expenses i was looking for some personal advice on buying or renting a rig, as well as problems people faced, or things that can help me get back to where i was quicker (looking into tunnel time, but i'm not too worried about freefall, more concerned with improving canopy work so i can get back to my 120)....and then renew my ratings (coach, video, get affi/tm) also, i'm going to break 1000 jumps soon, any ideas on a simple yet fun jump for my 1000th? I'm not going to go too crazy with it, as i've been around long enough to know that that is an accident waiting to happen.
Squeak 17 #2 March 16, 2010 I had 2009 off jumping, Did my 1000th in Feb2009 and my 1003 in Feb2010 I jump a Stiletto 135 but unlike you i only load it at 1.55:1. If you were doing a HP landings, and are uncurrent i would sugest doing a bunch of jumps on a 135-150 Sabre 2 then jumping your own. If you can smack out 10 jumps in a weekend, just to sort yourself out, that's how i would do it.You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?

MikeJD 0 #4 March 16, 2010 Good on you for being cautious to begin with. Looking at your jump numbers vs time in the sport, you were obviously pretty active prior to your layoff - I'd say a year off isn't very long given that prior experience (lots of us don't jump for 6 months at a time over the winter). So yep, take it easy but I reckon it'll take you no time at all to feel current again.
skyrider 0 #5 March 16, 2010 Depends on your home DZ, many have demo canopies, A saber 150 would be perfect, maybe someone that has dowwnsized still has theirs?
