Children are dying in Ireland

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,
Every year 1400 children in Ireland are diagnosed with life threatening diseases. Of these over 354 a year die. In 11 weeks from now I am running across the Namib desert to raise money to build Irelands first and only childrens hospice. I will be carrying all my kit on my back and will cover 78 miles in under 24 hours. The temp will be up to 46 degrees.
Please sponsor me and help these children die with dignity and give them the support that they and their family need.

Thanks, Skyrad

Thank you for supporting a worthy cause, but I wonder why it is necessary for you (or anyone else) to risk serious health problems running across a baking desert in order to do this.

Unfortunatly John its a sign of the times we live in. We had some very bad floods here in Ireland not so long ago, many people lost everything, the damage was estimated to be 100 million, the government gave 10 million in flood relief to cover everything.
Its not that they don't care, they simply don't have the money to build the hospice. So until they do one day have the money, it is left for people who care to find the money because the need can't wait.

Hi John, yes I believe that I can. This weekend I ran 15 miles on Saturday and 30 miles on Sunday. I'm in heavy training and have been for the last year in preparation. Four weeks ago i did two back to back UltraMarathons and ran a total of 95 miles in two days.
Its going to be tough; I have no doubt about that but yes I believe that I can do 78 miles in under 24 hours..

How was your vacation?

You are a good man and I want you to enjoy a pint of ale after your legs are like hamburger meat from attempting 78 miles in 24 hours.

Cheers Paul, it will be my first drink in a year.

I'll send something shortly. Just gave up 200 to the Ct. powerplant workers families that were recently killed. Can only fork out a little at a time.
I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Somehow I think drinking just one pint after punishing yourself should be your reward. You'll deserve it if you pull it off. Then you could go another year until you do something like this again!.

I wish you the best of luck...even if I am scottish:)
