Waiting for a call...

Recommended Posts

I'm supposed to meet up with a Recruitment Consultant in less than half an hour..

The girl (who didn't introduce herself) said she would email me to confirm time & location.. Except she didn't send the email.. This agency has several branches in London... I phoned all the branches this morning to see who I'm supposed to meet & where, but no one has gotten back to me so far..

So now I'm just waiting for this lady to call me all irritated-like that I never showed up so I can find out where I was supposed to go & reschedule..!

Sheesh!! This is probably what happens when you talk to someone and try to take notes and draft an email all at the same time.. Some poor guy called Ben probably got my message thinking who on earth is Nataly and why am I getting her mail?!!!! :D:D

Don't you suspect that the bad feedback you got was in fact aimed at the recruitment agency??? ;)

To me they seems to be a bit "fuzzy" :D

There we go.. Got the call from a suitably irritated recruitment consultant.. I now have an email with an apology and confirmation of the re-scheduled appointment at 4:00!!! :D:D

Does make you wonder a little, but I reckon everyone's entitled to the occasional cock-up!!

You dont think you hold some responsibility for not getting all YOUR required info?
I'm pretty sure if i am setting up a meeting I'll want to know with whom and when and where. and also a call back number for, "if anything should happen in the mean time"?

It is very common for recruiters to confirm desire for a meeting via telephone, then set a time and place later and email to the client for comfirmation.

Not really.. I couldn't really talk when she called - I was on the Tube & the phone could have lost reception at any moment.. The conversation was very quick as a result.. I got the agency and the time - she spelled out my email address to check she had the right one and said she'd email me all the details of how to get there, & we could talk then about roles, et cetera. I did try calling the different branches first thing this morning - not sure I could have done much more under the circumstances..

All sorted now anyway.. :)

Welcome to the ranks of the 'Between Jobs' folks.

Just keep on reminding yourself that Agents are wankers - they are only after one thing and one thing alone - their commission - they may sound like it on the phone BUT they are NOT you friend and they are NOT working for you... It's that simple>:(

I have applied for more contracts than I care to remember and all have come to nowt (as yet) - hence my ability to take the whole season in the Alps.

Also remember, that you have youth on your side and irrespective of the laws, employers ARE agist:(....

I'm banking on a change on the employment :(cene after APRIL (New financisl year) or I will be buying a hoody, a scarf and a gun and making my own luck:P

Good luck and don't rely on the scum-bag agents - Make your own enquiries directly to the companies.

I worked in recruitment for 3 months.. Not only did I suck at it, but I hated it as well.. It was a horrible, horrible job. I agree - employers are ageist, sexist, racist, elitist - you name it...

It's tough looking for work, but something always tends to work out over time.. You have to remember that direct applications are filtered by HR - they often don't understand much about the roles they are recruiting for, so it can be very hit and miss with them as well.. I've always find you need a mixture of direct applications and using agencies.. Recruiters may have a bad name, but companies still use them, and even incompetent ones might have access to amazing opportunities.. That's where you have to suck it up sometimes and not be snobbish..

Shroppy - you will be ok.. Something will come up.. And you're right: any gaps can always be explained away with "travel" :)
