futuredivot 0 #1 March 26, 2010 A little translation help for those of you that come south for business, boogies, or vacations-unless you're heading to Florida. Florida stops being in the south about 60 miles south of Jacksonville :-) OK. I have the true definition of "all ya'll". It takes the term "ya'll," which is plural in a generic form, and makes it specific to each member of the group referred to as"ya'll". It means each and every (damn) one of you specifically. "I'm haffin' a party and ya'll are invited," means that the group as a whole can come, but no feelings are hurt if people from the group don't come. "I'm haffin' a party and *all ya'll* are invited," means that each and every one of you have a specific invitation. Or, "Screw ya'll" is targeted toward an organization, such as a restaurant that wouldn't serve them without shoes. "Screw *all ya'll*" means I know where each and every damn one of ya'll lives and I'll be after you with my shotgun. You are only as strong as the prey you devour

BIGUN 1,483 #7 March 26, 2010 Any good southern'er will tell yea; yea can't explain nothing without usin no pitchures... Oh, and... for those heading down to these here parts, when you're told: Ya need to go up and turn "thisaway," it means left. Ya need to go up and turn "thataway," it means right. Unless you're getting your directions from a lady, then you have to watch her hands to see which way it means. And if there are no turns involved; "thisaway" probably means you need to turn around and go back, while "thataway" means you need to continue going in the direction you were headed. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

That was supposed to have been all sorted out 50 years before my ancestors came over on the boat. I will say that they made landfall at Ellis Island but it didn't take them too long to get the heck out of the northeast and head south to Ybor City. (Yes, they all rolled cigars.)
