OMG Carrier video clip

The Russkies have always known to take more risks. I don't know much about that aircraft enough to make a judgement call though.

Does anyone know the vertical height that an ejection seat would reach if the plane was in a static position? I know it propably varies with the plane, but maybe an average, and is it enough to for the canopy to reach full inflation? Survivalble above hard ground. I've seen some low bell out videos on a few "extreme" video shows.

Side Story:A salesman took me out to lunch a while back, and told me his ejection story from Nam. Some young rookie hot shot was flying with him training for night landings, and the rookie missed the cable trap thinga ma giger. After lifting off again, he freaked out because he thought he was to close to the water and punched them both out with nothing wrong.:D The salesman said he was less than happy, because he had to spend 2 hrs in the water and dark before a patrol boat (part of the fleet) got to pick him up. in that video it looks like about 30' or so. I wouldn't think a stationary ejection would vary much.

That was a show-off move. He was flying just fine and could have gone through. If you have the thrust to go from normal flight to a stall maneuver then you have the thrust to roll through a botched carrier landing.

that makes much more sense. Now looking back, I have seen videos of those airframes doing serious angle of attacks without stalling.

You're referring to the Cobra Maneuver? It's still an aerodynamic stall.

I think that's it. What causes it to not crash to the ground, the fact that the thrust is already vectored downard before the stall takes effect?
