Your opinion needed

Recommended Posts

You go to a restaurante that on the menu has calamar a la romana
would you expect a heavy fish n chip like batter or a light tempura batter?.

Ok, my argument is that if I order fresh calamar a la romana an it comes
in a heavy batter then it probably is'nt fresh but frozen.

Your opinions are needed.

edit, I got to go an cook now but I'll be back latter.

I prefer my squid in the very light batter, and fried to a nice crispy crunch on the little arms and just a hint pepper and other spices.

Did I take you to the Chinese place with the Pepper Salted Squid
???

GAWD I love their stuff.... but I tell em to go ONLY a .5 on the 1 to 5 scale on the pepper... I hate breaking into a sweat at a 3.. a friggin 5 would burn my gastro-intestinal tract completely out of my body:D:D

Wow...10 replies and not a single answer.

OK, my thoughts are it depends on where you order it. I agree that if it came out with a heavy batter my first suspicion would be that it isnt fresh and was frozen. However, if it isnt the most upscale place, then it COULD still be fresh, but was thrown in a deep fryer for simplicity and time purposes.

IMHO : Heavy batter is only for Cod and Yorkshire puds .... Delicate foods need light batters

Can't beat nice crispy codpieces.:P
