Pirates attack USS Nicholas

Dumb-ass 's

Either that, or the story's been changed a bit. You'd have to be more than stupid to attack a warship in a skiff, you'd have to be mentally disabled. Makes me wonder what really happened.

OK, off to speaker's corner with this thread!
Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

My guess... They saw some lights, thought it was somthing else, attacked and quickly figured out the error of their ways.

Yeah, I would go with they thought they had a "well to doer with a yacht" in their sights. When they fired and then got return fire instead of gold, I would guess the next words where "OH SHIT! run away!"

I wonder if the NAVY has reconfigured lights on the warships.... to resemble a merchantman..... Hell of a way to bait the dickweeds out there.

Its mighty hard to tell what something is on the horizon at sea on a dark night... and only its lights tend to give you a clue what it is.

I can neither confirm, nor deny the existance of deceptive tactics ;)

I think that area really does need a return of the Q-Ships... lure the dicweeds in and turn em into shark food.

Oooo... That would be cool.

A few years ago, we followed a few skiffs out there at night from the air, and guided in a friendly (to us) vessel to realign their priorities. Worked every time.

B| Pirates... Arrrrrrrrgh!
