quade 4 #2 February 5, 2010 Last Wednesday I walked about a 1/2 mile so I could order this really awesome "club" sandwich. What really makes it awesome is the amount of bacon they pile on it. Can probably only eat one of those a year, but still awesome.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

PLFXpert 0 #6 February 5, 2010 I stand by Smart Bacon. One must take careful effort to open the package and peel the strips apart, but smells and tastes--SO GOOD!--like a lean bacon. You know, like when your Mrs. puts you on a diet and buys Lean Dean (had "low-fat" bacon a lot as a little girl when my stepmom started doing the grocery shopping). It's still good. That is what Smart Bacon tastes like, and no pigs had to spare any ribs. I also am a big fan of LightLife's Gimme Lean Sausage. The trick is to cut what you want with a knife while it is still in the package and place in the pan and flatten out with a spatula (as opposed to trying to create a patty with your hands--it is too sticky). Yumm! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

PLFXpert 0 #10 February 5, 2010 Yup! Try it. You will be annoyed at first with the package and the pieces stuck together, but fry some up and tell me they do not taste good. I_do_have a palette. I like the fauxsausage better, though. I grew up on biscuits and gravy on Sundays. I have since done a croissant with appropriately-seasoned grits and been super-satisfied, but when I want that good-nasty gravy, I do the Gimme Lean and I am_not_left wanting. quade 4 #11 February 6, 2010 I tried being a vegetarian a couple of years ago. I tried every fake meat product available at the time. Some were tasty, some were ok, some were pure crap. None ever tasted like the thing they claimed, but a couple were ok. I still do the fakecon and fauxauge every once in awhile.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
PLFXpert 0 #12 February 6, 2010 Quote Some were tasty, some were ok, some were pure crap. Totally agree! The problem with many is seasoning. I.e. I love a vegan Boca burger, but I have to add several seasonings to it to make it taste "the same". In short, my position is America has food-issues because most people do not know their way around the seasoning isle of the grocery store. Seasoning is EVERYTHING! Edit: But there is no fauxcheese that tastes like cheese and no way to make it so. Some of the Veggie Slices are really good for a "grilled cheese", etc., but they are not vegan. Cheese is my vice, but I have done exceptionally well for more than a year now without it.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

For adults who were raised on meat, and ate it most of their lives before making the change, their palates (and to some degree, their bodies) are already conditioned to meat, so full change is not so easy. In that context, fake meat is not ironic at all.

Then again I feel sorta the same way about diet/low/no versions of foods. If ya want something, just eat it the original way. Maybe have less or have it less often. Edited to add: I have zero issue with what people choose to eat/not eat nor would tell them they can't or shouldn't but do personally find some peoples food choices ironic/hypocritical.
