happythoughts 0 #10 April 14, 2010 x. Multiply by 3. -> 3x Add 3. -> 3x +3 Multiply by 3 again. -> 9x + 9 -> 9(x+1) So, no matter what you choose, it is multiplied by 9. There is a basic mathematical test to see if a number is divisible by 9. You add the digits. The sum will be divisible by 9. 27, 81, 45... So, if you made your number 999, you'd end up with 9000.
