LongWayToFall 0 #26 April 17, 2010 Ask your BF or another photographer to take some photos, that you pay for (jump plus ?) as far as I know at that point the photos belong to you. You can always find some photos from the internet to begin drawing, and when you want to sell some, go out and get the rights to some photography. skymama 37 #27 April 17, 2010 Quote You could have posted.... "Hey, I am a starving artist that is willing to paint your favorite photo, skydiving or otherwise, for a fair price. If any one is interested please pm me. I can give you a quote and an approximate time frame of delivery. That's still breaking the forum rules. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
pilotdave 0 #28 April 17, 2010 Not sure why this got such a negative reaction. You can look around my website and let me know if there's a picture you want to use. http://SkydivingStills.com Dave
jtval 0 #29 April 18, 2010 Quote Wouldn't the target consumer of an oil painting of skydiving be a different customer than someone paying you to video their tandem? More than likely, and I would doubt many one time tandem jumpers frequent this site. I would assume the target she is looking for is for someone who has a photo of themselves that they like. In her original post she asked if any photogs had a photo that she could paint and then sell that photog a print. Seems kinds futile to me. Quote Would her painting a copy of one of your photos really diminish your income stream? I doubt it, but if so, don't give her any. Not at all. but she was asking us to PM her a copy of the image. so she can sell us a print of the painting she made. I don't care to give her a free image so she can make money from it. Seems kind of silly to me. I told her she can look at my website and get ideas but I won't be pming any hi res shot out for free to just anyone. Trust me there are lots of close freinds who get free stuff from me but Her approach seems odd to me. I addressed that with her. Does that meet your approval? Quote She made a polite request to be given good photos, and was very upfront about what she intended to do with them. Hardly seems to be a Western Union scam. I politely told her how silly it seemed and suggested a way that she may get more willing people to the table. Are you ok with that? I know my suggestion was against forum rules but the conversation had a better chance of staying up, imo, if I asked her about her talents. I never suggested she should be removed or beheaded. I replied to a (what I believe to be) a newer poster in these forums and told her why I thought her request was silly. I offered some ideas and possible target customers and I tried to do it in a fashion that would make the greenies keep this post since there IS discussion about it rather than a blatant advertisement. My photos My Videos
jtval 0 #30 April 18, 2010 Now, I understand your post. Grape edited her original post to make more sense. In her original post she was asking photographer if they had any shots that she could use and she'd be willing to sell us a print of the painting she rendered from it. That was the silly part of it as MOST photographers don't have alot of pictures of themselves. The better customer is someone who obtained the photo from the photog and likes it enough to buy a painting of it. I don't only film tandems and many of my friends co workers have digital images that I gave to them to do with as they see fit. They are more likely to want to buy something that Grape is offering than a photog who already has the image. As a photog, I can go onto my website and buy replicated versions of my photos on canvas. thats more likely to be what I would do with a photo that I took. (that's just MY choice. I expect others my differ) Without knowing the quality of her work it seemed very odd to give her any "copyrighted" material in hopes it was more than a fingerpainting. Anyway, Maybe that explains the conversation a bit more clearly. My photos My Videos
cocheese 0 #31 April 18, 2010 I just wanted to say that part of the beauty of this sport is in the people. The people who share their beautiful experiences through photos or video for all of us to see. If the work you do is unseen, then all is wasted. If it is shared, then it becomes beautiful in the eyes of many. Life is short and a beautiful picture can live on in the eyes and minds of others longer than you will. Share some of the wealth of beauty you may have captured without question or compensation. The rewards might come back to you in ways you never thought of. JohnMitchell 16 #32 April 18, 2010 Quote Anyway, Maybe that explains the conversation a bit more clearly. Always a pleasure to exchange posts with you on these forums.I wasn't sure who her potential customers were. There are millions of artists in the world. It's a very small percentage that are successful, at least from an economic standpoint. Paint away, I say. Just don't feel bad if we don't buy it.
