kkeenan 14 #1 April 29, 2010 Reported by Space.com: CANADA WANTS WILLIAM SHATNER OF ‘STAR TREK’ FOR GOVERNOR: William Shatner may have saved the galaxy countless times with the Starship Enterprise on TV's "Star Trek," but can he command his native land of Canada? Some die-hard fans think so – they want the original Capt. James T. Kirk to lead Canada as Governor General. The Shatner believers have launched a Facebook campaign calling for Shatner, a native of Montreal, to be appointed to a real five-year mission as the ceremonial Governor General of Canada. As of Wednesday, nearly 41,000 people were supporting the bid. "It's time for Canada to boldly go where no country has gone before," the fans wrote on their Facebook post. "It's time for Canada to appoint the incomparable William Shatner to the position of Governor General. Indeed it's time to Back the Shat."

JohnMitchell 16 #6 April 29, 2010 Quote No more desperate than California Isn't Shatner too much of a macho man of action for Canada? I mean, he phazers the aliens and fights the swamp monsters, blows things up and does the green chick. I think Picard is more Canada's style of leader, a real consensus kind of guy. To all my Canadian friends I just pissed off . . . Sorry.
Andrewwhyte 1 #7 April 29, 2010 Couldn't possibly be Picard; it's an anglo's turn. Realistically this demonstrates why a facebook advocacy group with 40 000 members is not even worth mentioning.

MikeJD 0 #9 April 29, 2010 They should be campaigning for Keifer Sutherland instead, just to make a better rhyme: "Back Jack".

LongWayToFall 0 #11 April 30, 2010 I just noticed that they both were in running man too, I have seen the predator a million times though, such a classic. I would never trust someone who dies early in a movie as governor.... hahahaha.
FanOfFalling 0 #12 April 30, 2010 It's worse than the subject of the original post suggests. They aren't trying to make him "Governor", but rather Governor General. Some idiots actually think Shatner would make an acceptable (even if ceremonial) commander in chief of the Canadian Armed Forces. As a Canadian I am against anything that makes our military any more a joke than it is already perceived to be.
