I had a patient caught up in the initial stages of that incident. She arrived with hilarious stories of driving through and cows all around her car...Policemen trying to round them up and being ever so unsuccessful. Reminded me of Keystone cops!

Thankfully she alerted us all to this before we left work this afternoon as this is exactly on my way home! The back-up it seems was from Redlands back into Riverside!

You know what was the one thing that finally made me bite the bullet and get a cell phone/pager for the first time? It was 1999, and I was on my way home from work on I-20 east of Birmingham. All of a sudden the traffic slowed then came to a dead stop. After about 30 minutes just sitting there I saw other drivers talking to each other and milling about, so I got out and asked what was going on. I was told that an 18 wheeler overturned with a load of cows 12 miles ahead and the east-bound lanes were completely blocked. The gory mess had all been cleaned up by the time I passed the accident scene, after dark.

I got home 4 hours later than normal to a hysterical girlfriend (soon-to-be-wife) that didn't know what had happened to me.
