What color eyes do you have

Genetically blue is a dominant color - you'll find the majority of people have blue, with green being the most rare.

IIRC, brown is the dominant color. You need two recessive blue genes to get blue. A blue and a brown genotype results in Brown eyes...Correct me if I am wrong.

Also, aren't most babies born with blue eyes, which pigment later if they're not genetically blue-eyed?

ah yes, you're right, brown is the dominant gene, depending on the chromosome.

The brown allele is always dominant over the blue allele so even if a person is heterozygous (one brown and one blue allele) for the bey 2 gene on chromosome 15 the brown allele will be expressed. The gey gene also has two alleles, one green and one blue. The green allele is dominant to the blue allele on either chromosome but is recessive to the brown allele on chromosome 15. This means that there is a dominance order among the two gene pairs. If a person has a brown allele on chromosome 15 and all other alleles are blue or green the person will have brown eyes. If there is a green allele on chromosome 19 and the rest of the alleles are blue, eye color will be green. Blue eyes will occur only if all four alleles are for blue eyes. This model explains the inheritance of blue, brown and green eyes but cannot account for gray, hazel or multiple shades of brown, blue, green and gray eyes. It cannot explain how two blue-eyed parents can produce a brown-eyed child or how eye color can change over time. This suggests that there are other genes, yet to be discovered, that determine eye color or that modify the expression of the known eye color genes.

I'm very jealous of people with green eyes. :$

I'm 100% irish and several extended relatives have the red hair/green eye combo. My family must be the black sheep section (literally :P), as everyone in my family (both mom and dads side), going back for 3 generations has medium to dark brown hair and blue eyes.

I spent two summers chronicle-izing my family heritage and found the majority of my family have been the same. I'll eventually get to Ireland to interview the other half of my mothers family but expect to find much of the same.

I even dyed my hair red as a b-day present to myself at 19 and got green contacts :P Didn't last long though - I eventually got tired of the upkeep involved :D

I'm the same way! 50% Irish on my dad's side. He, my brother, and the majority of that side of the family have red hair and green-blue eyes (My bro's are bright, pure green)

So, now I'm a redhead too! :)

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

Red with no irises - triangle shaped - they shoot blue flame when I'm hungry. It's kind of inconvenient.

(Actually - extremely dark brown when I was young, then turned to a dark green today - or shit brown, depending on who's looking and if they are being nice or not)

I'm 50% Irish and have the dark hair/dark eye combo too-as does most of the family-except my sis who has red hair and brownish/hazelish eyes. Oh, well [:/]
