mgregory 0 #1 February 9, 2010 A Serious Man is a seriously horrible movie. Do not waste your time. It has a worse ending than No Country For Old Men except there isn't an interesting movie before it.AKA MG Hammer Flying Hellfish #834 Son's Of Bacon #

The _No Country For Old Men_ ending was great. The whole prey/predator thing and a welcome departure from what you expect out of Holywood.

Up to this point I regarded "Barton Fink" as their worst.I was hoping for better from "A Serious Man" (haven't seen it yet). While not excellent like _Raising Arizona_ or _The Big Labowski_, I thought Barton Fink was OK. _Intolerable Cruelty_ was getting iffy. _A Serious Man_ was worse than both of those. It didn't suck badly enough that I didn't care what happened to the characters although we did discuss leaving before the end of the movie. It might be more accessible if you grew up Jewish in the midwest. It's probably most meaningful when you're a director who wants to talk about your childhood and have carte blanche from the studios because of your recent Oscar. quade 4 #6 February 10, 2010 Anytime I discuss whether or not to leave before the movie ends . . . the movie sucks. Don't know about your standards, but it would have to be pretty flippin' bad for me to just abandon it altogether.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

For me, "Miller's Crossing" was a film where I didn't care what happened to the characters. It seemed odd that a film which looked so polished, just never drew me in enough to care what happened to anyone in it."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. And that the protagonists didn't realize they were the old men; that their time had come and gone. Hey, you liked "Yanks syrup" when we had waffles on Christmas, ya dang Ozzy. marcandalysse 0 #10 February 11, 2010 You obviously didn't get bar mitzvah'ed in a midwest suburban town in the mid 1960's. For those of us who did ....they nailed it 100%. Check out the extras on the DVD for more on that... I wouldn't have enjoyed sitting thru this in a movie theater for $10, but as a DVD offering I thought it worthwhile...but I wouldn't recommend it as a light evening entertainment.marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton
Shotgun 1 #11 May 12, 2010 I watched "A Serious Man" last night. I enjoyed the movie, and I thought the ending was..... interesting. And I was left wondering what the prologue was all about, but I guess I can see how it goes with the rest of the film (curses and all?). I'd probably even watch it again sometime.
