dbac 0 #1 May 2, 2005 Hey, pretty new to this so forgive my naivety - you can abuse my vanity though. I have tinted bugeye goggles that I like but I just joined a 4way team and really ought to have some clear ones too. What do you reckon to these from a functional point of view for FS and eventually FF? [url]http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7971774362&category=50424&sspagename=WD2V I'm concerned that the foam doesnt go all the way around the lens rim, causing lifting etc. Is this a problem? What do most 'sunglasses' have that most skydivers use? Do they all have foam too? What about fogging? The choice of goggles to purchase is limited in the UK, so I'm a little apprehensive about ordering from the web without sufficient background knowledge. If you could help, I'd be eternally grateful... cheers Bri
AndyMan 7 #2 May 2, 2005 I wear gatorz, they don't have any foam at all. Try them first on a hop and pop, then take them into freefall. If freefall doesnt' work, either dump high (because you planned ahead and exited last...) or roll over to your back. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. Seems excessive to me. Then again, I've done quite a few jumps sans goggles or sunglasses. Usually due to forgetting them or giving them to a low time jumper on the plane and they had forgotten theirs, quite a few hop-n-pops done without goggles or glasses as well. All in all I never thought it was too big of a deal, eyes watered a little bit and I went on with life.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." The first one, where I didn't do anything to protect my eyes from the wind left me with a feeling a lot like you get after swimming in an over-chlorinated pool, along with the "halo" effect for almost a full week. To each his own. Anyways, I don't have any problems with Gatorz, so I guess practically anything works to some degree... _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. BIGUN 1,483 #6 May 2, 2005 I've had my best success at functionality with Sorz Goggles http://www.paraequip.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=99&CFID=6542588&CFTOKEN=63273238Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. The (most popular) frames are made from T6 aluminum, and are very durable, with a good warranty. The lenses come in a wide variety of shapes and colors. Unless you wear contacts Gatorz should serve your purposes very well. Does anyone out there have experience with skydiving, contacts, and Gatorz? How well do they work in such a scenario? lister55 0 #8 May 2, 2005 I have done close to 100 jumps with my Gatorz now and I wear contacts. I have never had an issue. The only time I get any kind of wind in my eyes is during a tracking dive. But I get that with most goggles anyway. The one thing I havent liked is that the lenses have gotten really scratched up pretty quickly. Although, everyone else I know with them has not had this problem. I only wear them jumping and store them in the protective case...? take that how you will. They are expensive so.... Kris 0 #9 May 3, 2005 It sounds like he wants something clear so that he can maintain eye-contact. The Sorz goggles are great. I have a pair that I wear for working with freefall students.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

How well do they work in such a scenario? for more than 300 jumps i've had no issues at all.. in fact i had more problems with the Sorz when they flipped up and i lost a contact in the middle of a flocking dive... sucks to be taken out by your own goggles... it really depends on how well the glasses fit your face, i found a pair in perris that left very little room around the top of my cheek bones so i bought them immediately.. ive seen several other styles that wouldnt work as well for me... fortunately i dont have the contacts to worry about anymore at all... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
