Static Line Hang Up From Hell!

Recommended Posts

Damn. :S

That video raised a ton of questions for me. Body position? Looked likely to foul. And the hang up. Was it a rigging mistake that they were pointing to at the end of the video. Was the jumper seriously injured and/or unconcious? How cool was that conical reserve attached to the top of the S/L before they cut it? I'd like to know how that system works.

Thanks for posting that.

Almost loooked liek they attached that reserve to the stais line from inside the plane before releasing him!

And sure looked like a misrouted line was the cause!

I recall reading about that system years ago.
Possibly in "Parachutist" or "Skydiving".
I never before saw video of an actual use of it.

Years ago, late 70s Fountain N.C. Near Jacksonville. A one Cessna 182 DZ That had no buildings, It was run out of the owners truck. Anyway, He had 2 D-rings on a short riser hooked up to a capewell. The idea was if we had a non responsive student in tow. We hooked up the chest mount reserve stored under the pilots seat to the other D-ring, pulled the rip-cord(no pilot chute) then cutaway the capewell and don't get in the way. Hoping that what ever caused the hang up doesn't un-hang at 200'. If they were responsive they were to put their left hand on top of their helmet and their right hand on their reserve rip-cord. Signaling that they will pull the rip-cord when we cut the static line.

I saw this guy give the signal to cut him away....but from the look of his mess, his reserve wouldn't of had a prayer of clearing!
