Sometimes people surprise you...

Recommended Posts

So I got home this evening only to realise my pocket was open and my wallet no longer inside.. Obviously must have fallen out on my journey home..

I cancelled my bank cards and wouldn't ya know, when I checked my facebook I had a message from someone who found my cards! He left his phone number, and I called - he's putting my driver's licence in the post for me :)
I told him if he lived near where he found my stuff and he happened to find the rest of my wallet he could keep the cash, but I'd quite like to get back the sentimental stuff (pictures, etc). Never know.. He might find something else..

Happy Facebook was there to connect us!!

Yeah, I think there are lot more good people in the world than we give credit for :)
About a month ago I left my wallet on roof of the car after getting gas in my town. Fell off on the road while driving away and I didn't realize what I'd done until about 30 minute later. Figured it was gone for good when I went back looking for it and didn't find it. Got home that night after work and my wallet was sitting on my door step, everything in it, with a nice note and phone number from the guy who'd found it lying in the road and used my drivers license to get it back to my house. Called and offered to buy him lunch and he was just happy for the thanks.

Kinda restores your faith in humanity a bit, huh? :)

Wow.. Delivered right to your door - that's so nice :)
All I'm thinking is - it's London.. The guy had every reason to not bother at all.. And even if he *did* find the entire wallet (cash included), I'm still pleased he went to the trouble of finding me and sending me back my licence B| It saves me that extra little bit of hassle.

The Carnival I worked for (Thanks to me) had a rule, when we found a Poke, We took the cash, and threw the rest in a mailbox ,(my young scummy days, but I wasn't all bad), the post office will return it to the rightful owner..

granted, we were stealing, but we weren;t fucking up their world for months!

about 10 years ago, I picked up a cabinate for my garage, that someone had throw out on the curb, wehn I got it home a wedding ring rolled out onto the ground!

I took it back to the house that had set it out...The guy was litterally in shock that someone (Especialluy a guy on a chopped Harley,he was the manager of the local kawasaki shop), would return it...he had lost it 6 years earlier while working in his garage...and his wife never believed him!

i love the look on people face when a stranger helps them out!

I agree; it's sad when we as a society are surprised when someone does the right thing.

Yeah.. I would be pleased but not surprised if this had happened in a small community.. But in a big city, I fully expect that the average person just couldn't be bothered.. Maybe I'm wrong.. This guy certainly didn't live up (down) to my expectations!

I'm so glad that I'm paranoid.. I never carry all my cards/ID with me at the same time.. So I have an emergency card that I can still use and some emergency money in my piggy bank :)

I will say that I was also surprised when I left my camera in the King's Cross train station a few years ago, and when I checked the lost and found the next day it was actually there. The station made me pay a fee to get it from them which made me mad, but I paid it so I could get my photos back.

Oh sure. You set this all up to get a date with the guy. I saw the movie.;)

Yes.. I threw my credit cards, personal details, driver's licence, family photos, travel card, work receipts, club cards, stamps and wallet randomly in the London streets.. So I could meet a random guy..

Makes perfect sense!! :D:D:S

I may be single, but I'm not desperate!!

Edit to add: I also threw in some cash for good measure!! :D

And here I thought it was going to be a wrong hole thread. I think that WOULD surprise her.

A friend of mine, a B.A.S.E. jumper, was traveling through King's Cross in the 80s when some "zipper ripper" copped 1600 bucks out of his back pack. He went to the station master to report it and all they did was announce, "Attention, pick pockets are operating in the station!" Over the loud speakers.

"Is that all you're going to do?" My buddy asked in disbelief and they replied, "This ain't America, mate. Everybody here rows their own boat!"

Ya gotta hand it to the limeys sometimes . . .

My best find ever, The Honest side of me took over,,,,dman it..

World Freefall convention, I went to one of ghe shiters, there sat a wallet...5000 in teh main pocket, 2500 in teh hidden pocket...and it belonged to a Cop!

I went to manifest and had them call the owner, he took one look at me, grabbed the wallet and di d quick count...LOL

He was in chack, a Biker woudl return all that cash.,...especially to a cop...He offered me a hundred dollar bill, I told him, just remember this the next time you stop some bikers...maybe cut them some slack!

2 hours later, I got a fucking speeding ticket for going 10 over the limit back to town! Fuck Karma, it don;t work!~...LOL
I just figured being a Cop, and a Skydiver, that was probably his whole vacation fund for the year, and knew how I would feel if I had lost it!

That's the reason for doing it.

Yeah, and if you don't hand it to us, we'll just take it from you. :)
Seriously, it's a vicious circle. If someone doesn't bother to return a wallet it's probably on the basis that they don't think anybody else would do the same for them. Sad times.

(Most) people suck ... but not all of them. I had a similar hugely pleasant surprise a couple of weeks ago.

One Saturday morning someone rang my door bell. I didn't expect anyone so I didn't answer the door - I was in the middle of something anyway :|. 20 minutes later the door bell again ... I don't answer ... 20 minutes later door bell again, for the 3rd time. Thinking it's one of those church people, I'm supper annoyed ... I throw some clothes on and rush to the door ready to rip someone's head off. There stands this guy ... he came out of the gym and found my wallet on the sidewalk - credit cards, ATM card, driver's license and $300 in cash. He found it, opened it, saw the address on the driver's license, tried (really hard) to return it to me.

Did I feel like an ass? Oh yes ...

People suck ... but once in a while someone comes along to prove that wrong - I'm grateful for that :)

Olympia's guy saw the wallet and said "score, free money" and opened it and took one look at her picture.

next thing you know, he's playing 'hero' and showing up on the doorstep

no ulterior motives there :P

Well, I would HOPE that he was going to put it in the mail and then saw the picture and decided to deliver it personally . . . for an HOUR:o.

Yep - determined he was - I wonder how much info he wrote down and did searches on before he returned it.

I'm proud to live in one of the more honest areas of the country. Unfortunately, according to the Reader's Digest famous Lost Wallet Test, the U.S. is at about 56% honest, with Seattle about 70%. I don't have the numbers for Atlanta, but they were the worst in the U.S.[:/]

Norway and Denmark scored 100%. Damn, that's some real nice people there.B|

Might want to re-read that, John - it shows the worldwide total around 56% and the U.S. hovering around 70%, with the Seattle area being the best for the U.S..
