What have you done this week....

Recommended Posts

I have a handful of things that were really helpful to society and another day this week, I helped an individual who was having a heart attack.

All in all it wasn't a bad week. I even got 5 really good work outs in, making really good gains in the gym.:)

I did first aid for a drunk after my dog tried to rip his hand off![:/]

I talked to my 82 yearold nieghbor on the phone to calm her down , after the earth quake!

I pumped gas for and elderly lady that was having trouble getting the pump to work!

Held the door for a chair bond man to enter a store, that did not have automatic doors!

returned a stray dog to it's owner! (glad they had a tag)

I work as a speech-language pathologist and had a great week at work. The highlights of my week were:

-helping a gentleman with severe cerebral palsy use a specialized computer to communicate. This is the first time in his life he's been able to reliably communicate more than 10+ concepts - we're up to 100+!

-helping a patient and his family develop strategies to cope with loss of short-term memory

-make big gains with a woman who has had a stroke in her ability to communicate simple needs

It was one of those weeks that made me think I chose the right profession for myself.

Edited to add:

-not laughing when the family member of a patient ripped a huge fart in front of me.

to make a difference for someone else?

I started a new job recently so am mainly focused on settling into my job right now. I did advise a friend who has been unemployed for a long time about an opening at my firm. I didn't hear anything back from her so I don't know if I actually made a difference or not.

I ripped out a cabinet and installed a used dishwasher in my sister-in-law's house. I then went back up there and trouble shot it when it quit working properly. I'll go up next Monday and install the new drain motor. Then I'm going to add some cabinets and countertops in her kitchen.

She's going thru a rough time right now. Her husband is too sick to work, and they have 3 autistic boys. She's working two jobs and running the house hold to make ends meet. We do what we can.

Hmmm...picking up other people's trash while walking somewhere is pretty much a daily thing.

Gave a hitch-hiker a ride and some cash.

Changed a tire for someone on the freeway.

I don't think being my teen daughter's humble servant really counts. :)

I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Ya know, I never thought about the little things that make a difference to someone. I just thought it was respectful and neighbourly to do them.

But they DO make a difference.

Thanks for reminding us of that. :)
I won't tell you what I did but I will tell you what someone's done for me:

To the young guy that held the door and helped me take 2 carts out of Canadian Tire and loaded it into the Jeep today (dad's bday/father's day outdoor recliner was on one) THANKS!!!

To the lady at the gas station that was looking for her debit card and let me go ahead of her ... THANKS!!

To my neighbour who took the time to pull some Hostas from her garden for the planter in front of my house .. and then planted them for me ... THANKS!!!

I hope everyone continues to make a difference. It's the little things.

:)

Don't worry; You must have had an off day.
I'm sure you'll get another opportunity.

The tire changing thing? I hope it was for a little old lady ( I've stopped for them) and not some teenage kid that should have done his own. :P
A few years ago, when my oldest girl was 16, her current B/F, also 16, had a flat in front of our house. He had no clue had to change it, so my daughter and my son Brett jumped in and did it for him. As he sat on my front lawn I heard him say "I think I really should know how to do this."
I told him it was killing his man card. :D

If you do change a tire for someone, make sure you tighten the wheel enough when you're done. The only time someone ever changed one for me ("there there little lady -- don't you worry your pretty head") he didn't, and the wheel came off about 1/10 of a mile later. I had to take one lug nut off each of the other wheels in order to limp to the dealer to get new lug nuts.

Never again
