Travman 6 #3 April 26, 2005 Your instructors would be the best people to talk to about this as they are aware of your skills. But generally for a first canopy you are looking at a 1:1 wingloading, or there abouts so probably a 200-210. The more experience will be able to give you better advice than I can. riggerrob 643 #5 April 26, 2005 ... first guess, a 200 square foot reserve and a similar-sized main.
PhreeZone 20 #6 April 26, 2005 Personally.. 1.15 is high for the first canopy. 200 pounds then add on your gear makes you more likely to be 230 or more exiting the plane. Talk to your instructors, but something about a 230 is probally close to what they suggest.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
GQ_jumper 4 #7 April 26, 2005 the dealer you buy the container from will know what size container you need for the main canopy you are getting. they will also be able to tell you what sizes of reserve will be able to fit into that container. for reserves i personally go with the biggest one i can fit in the container without making it too tight. as for mains, my advice is going to be the same as everyone else on here, talk to your instructors. I bought a Pilot 210 by aerodyne as my first canopy, i luv the hell out of it. its reliable and incredibly forgiving. i plan on staying with that canopy til i can wring every bit of performance possible out of it.History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D.
