riddler 0 #3 June 21, 2010 British law should make an exception for what may be the coolest drinking game ever. With the coolest name.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
davjohns 1 #4 June 21, 2010 Sooooo.... We are OK with you drinking. We just don't want you to have fun while you are doing it? I don't drink. But that's messed up.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

So who is the last legal Cardinal Puff in England?
wmw999 2,589 #6 June 21, 2010 I became a Cardinal in England in 1977 Wendy P. There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
JohnRich 4 #7 June 21, 2010 QuoteQuote: "New laws introduced in April banned drinking games..." Are SCR beer-pouring ceremonies now illegal? Perhaps a preemptive application should be made to the Home Office asking for a waiver of exemption from this law, since SCR ceremonies mostly involve the wasting of beer by pouring it onto the ground, rather than the actual consumption of it. I think a video of an actual ceremony would be excellent evidence in favor of this exemption.
MikeJD 0 #8 June 21, 2010 Just so you know, I'd never heard of this tradition either. We're not actually all running around the country shouting 'What ho!' and tossing beer-soaked rags at one another.

I didn't say I didn't find it wildly entertaining to watch others do so. Well, at the risk of sending this thread to SC, the government that introduced this law (and many, many others during its term) is no more. So hopefully there'll be a bit of dialling back on all the 'nanny state' legislation going forward. But as I read it, they're only clamping down on organised/ commercially promoted drinking games. As far as I know it's still ok for a group of friends to sit around and drink themselves silly using whatever rules they like. At least it had better be. Other side of the coin: I was surprised to be stopped from playing cards in a US airport - can't remember which (Pittsburgh, maybe?) - on the basis that we might appear to be gambling.
