mnealtx 0 #3 June 24, 2010 It seems to be fairly common for distance runners and hikers as well...all you can do is keep it clean and covered and make sure it doesn't get infected.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706

Happens to me a lot as a runner. Keep the toe wrapped and KEEP IT CLEAN. Antiseptic it every night. You'll be fine._______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" I hate wearing shoes, always wwear sandles, So I lose at least one toenail a year..Myself, I simply keep in clean, and withing 24 hours, the pain stops.. If you are wearing shoes...then of course bandage it I am missing on toenail now!
Nataly 38 #13 June 25, 2010 As a runner, this has happened to me half a dozen times and will keep happening as one foot is slightly bigger than the other so new shoes never quite fit right on my left foot. It's no big deal - my toenail has always grown back like nothing ever happened. Just keep it from getting infected and you will be fine. If you do suspect an infection DON'T IGNORE IT and make sure you go see a doctor immediately. They can sort you out pretty quickly, but even a small infection can turn into bad, bad news."There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
BillyVance 35 #14 June 25, 2010 weird... I never had toe-nail problems when I was a runner, and I ran for a decade (the 80's). In the last 15 years or so, I have occasionally lost the nail off the last small toe, which has always been sort of a growth mass instead of a simple smooth toe-nail. I have to use a rasp to file it down as the toe-nail clippers are never big enough to trim it! Shoes that are too tight and nails that are improperly clipped (nail polish doesn't look so nice on short nails!) and runs that are just a little bit too long.. It happens.. Especially if you continually enter races.. I haven't done that in a while (races), but when I attempt difficult terrain I know my left big toenail might suffer for it..
