Nataly 38 #1 July 10, 2010 Ok.. So a little over a year ago I bought myself a pink guitar So far I can (sort-of) play: Don't Cry (with the finger picking) Yellow The Sound of Silence Helene Things You Do (only the froggies will know this one!) (and a few bits & bobs not worth mentioning!) So I need some ideas - what are some nice tunes I can learn that are good for beginners?"There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
davjohns 1 #2 July 10, 2010 I don't know the name, but it goes: I don't wanna work. I just wanna bang on the drum all day! Hmmmm...maybe not a guitar song? I'm very much the opposite of helpful, aren't I?I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

skyflower_bloom 0 #6 July 10, 2010 Disclaimer- I still vacillate between trying to play my guitar, which I have had for ~8 years, and letting it gather dust under my bed.. so my level of knowledge and skill is pretty low in general and fluctuates.. However, many Bob Dylan songs are often good ones to start with if ya like Dylan.. "Blowin' in the Wind" was one of the first Dylan songs I learned.. Sometimes if browsing online or whatever for songs to learn, the tab will throw in some tricky barre chords- just know they are not always necessary, and that you can omit them or find a version with them already left out for earlier players. It still sounds decent. Also, House of the Rising Sun- but I'm biased, it was the first song I was taught to play when I was given the guitar. Enjoy, congrats, and you may have just motivated me to get back into a guitar phase ;) blue skies (ok and if Bob Dylan and general hippie music is shunned among the sky people, please ignore this post and let's all be friend? ) "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." Nataly 38 #7 July 10, 2010 Thanks for the tips everyone! I took about 10 years of piano lessons, so I reckon it's sheer laziness that I've waited so long to pick up the guitar! My main obstacles at the moment are time, inspiration and the sound of my horrifically out-of-tune voice!! (My poor neighbours!) But I'm slowly picking it up, and it's really satisfying when I think that a year ago the only thing I could do with a guitar was tune it!! jtval 0 #8 July 10, 2010 You'll eventually find your voice. Keep singing. nothing sexier than a female vocalist... (unless you're singing death metal) All summer long is a VERY simple song. D, C, G are the chords. (its basically sweet home alabama) and its very popular here. Life by the drop (SRV) is just a 12-bar blues progression What I like (about you)- is a very simple song. D,A,E What style are you looking to play?My photos My Videos
banesanura 1 #9 July 10, 2010 Incubus, or any classical spanish favorite: Sweet home alabama. Throw some metal in there, get a nice effect pedal, or a good amp to make it a nice crisp distortion. Ooon man. I used to love the presets on line 6. Makes it wayyy easier instead of lugging extra cables, pedals, etc....but then again the sound is standard and difficult to make unique.Best Girl Scout Ever. jtval 0 #18 July 11, 2010 You can play "don't cry" with the finger picking. If you can finger pick you can play this song. You may not be perfect on the first try but Id bet you can get it down. If you tune both "E" strings to "D" it'll make it simpler. But, yes, it is an intimidating song. How about twinkle twinkle little star? Here's and Idea. go to (had to find a good one) youtube and find someone playing it and try to recreate it. Its MOSTLY finger picking... Get the music down first then work on adding the lyrics. Flake by Jack johnson is easy to play. 4 chords. My photos My Videos

wolfriverjoe 1,523 #24 July 12, 2010 THIS is a tune I've always loved. I think you could master it with some practice (some is the variable word here). Seriously, any good blues tune. Many are simple chord progressions. It's not the skill you play it with, it's the heart. Some of the "comedy" singers, Tim Wilson or Rodney Carrington have some pretty good songs, funny and fun. I would bet serious money that you playing Show Them To Me would go over like gangbusters"There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
