Anyone wanna go on a roadtrip?

Recommended Posts

The plan is to head to pitt meadows for an accuracy meet for july 17 weekend. Then maybe spend a day or two checking out vancouver.
Then spend a week with my brother in kelowna. Then head to the LP boogie until aug 2nd.
Then drive back to ontario to spend some time with my family. Go to another accuracy meet at skydive burnaby and catch up with some friends at parachute school of toronto. Then drive back to Edmonton for the western conference cup at the end of aug.
At the end of september I am moving to australia for at least a year.

Pretty much loading my truck up with the few things that I own so I can leave everything at my parents house in ontario. Then driving back to edmonton and selling my truck.

Mostly I am looking for places to check out while I am driving from montana back to ontario. Maybe find some dropzones that are open during the week. Also if anyone can recommend nice campgrounds to stay at anywhere along the trip that would be awesome! or better yet if anyone lives along the way and wants to give me a corner to sleep in I will bring some beer!
Have you seen my pants?

I would like to join you. But I never go that far north due to religious reasons.
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Here's an update on the trip so far. There have been some pretty interesting times and Im only about a week in.

Sorry about the length, dont have internet access very often.

july 14 wed
So Matt and I started our road trip wednesday morning and drove down thru jasper and onto kamloops BC where we found a provincial park to set up camp for the night. There wasn't much going on there so we just had a campfire and had some beers. It was nice to just sit around a campfire and relax, I haven't done that in a while.

July 15 thurs

Got up thursday morning, packed up and drove down to the DZ at Pitt Meadows. Registered for the weekend accuracy meet and set up camp. We decided we might as well go check out Vancouver and the ocean that night. Our friend Kat recommended we go check out Kits beach then go bar hoping on Granville st. So we set off with out planning much else, like where we would sleep or things like that. Drove out to Kits beach and hung out in the sun drinking beers and playing football. Finally got to go for a swim in the pacific, this was great! I can now say I have driven across Canada, Coast to Coast and swam in both oceans. We hung out on the beach and watched the sunset behind the mountains across the inlet and decided it was time to head out to the bars.
While we were driving to the bars we realized we hadn't thought about where we were going to stay that night. This was kind of important because once we got to the bars the truck was staying where it was parked. So we resolved that if we didn't want to sleep in the truck we would have to find some friendly women to let us sleep over. This is always excellent motivation. Just to be safe we memorized the intersection where the parking lot was that we parked the truck in for the night.
We started our night off a nice irish pub and had some dinner and a few pints. We got talking to the bartender and he recommended a couple other places for us to check out and gave us a shot of whiskey on the house before sending us on our way. The night gets kind of blurry from here on out. We hit a few more bars and did quite a bit of wondering the streets of vancouver.
We ended up at a dance/rave club around 1am. I met a girl there who was very keen on taking my pants off shortly after we met. I like this girl. So we go outside to have a smoke and I relize that this girl is intent on giving me head right there on the sidewalk, being that she has undone my pants and has my penis in her mouth. Now I'm pretty drunk so Im okay with this idea, but my years of experience have taught me that if your getting head on the sidewalk, eventually someone will put an end to it and that will be the end of your night. Not wanting the night to end I asked her if we could go to her place because I had nowhere to stay. My plan was working perfectly, I was going to find a place to sleep! I just had to let her play with my penis. Unfortunatly she couldn't bring me back to her place because she lived with her parents. I was okay with that, I have yet to meet a girls parents who like me coming home with their daughter drunk at 2 am on a weeknight. So our only option was to go to my truck. By this time I had totally forgotten that I was even with Matt. I was sure he had done the same and we would find each other in the morning.
Now I remembered the intersection where the truck was but i had no idea how to get there. So we spent a good amount of time drunkenly wondering the street trying to find my truck. Its really hard to pay attention to where you are when you have a girl trying to take your pants off regardless of where you are. So we finally find my truck and had some fun in the parking lot. Well as much fun as you can have in the cab of a ford ranger anyway.
Somewhere along the way I remembered that I came here with matt and it might be a good idea to see if he is still alive. So I text him and tell him im at the truck and go back to playing with the girl.
About half an hour later Matt shows up at the truck and see me sitting in the drivers seat. He goes to open the passenger door and see im not alone and starts laughing. The girl hears this and decides its time for her to go home.
So Matt jumps in the truck and tells me about his night. He didn't have much luck at the bar and had to pay a homeless guy to show him how to get back to the truck. We decided to turn in for the night, agreeing that we were both drunk enough to pass out in the truck, Matt on the floor in the cab and me in box of the truck. We woke up around 9am to the parking authority writing me a parking ticket. Turns out my parking pass expired at 6am. Who the fuck parks over night then gets up at 6am? So anyway after I paid for parking and got the parking ticket it would have been cheaper to get a motel room for the night.

July 16 Fri

We drove back to the DZ and crawled into the tent and went back to sleep for a few hours. Got up and did a training jump for the accuracy meet, landed about 100 feet away from the tuffet. Yup I was ready to compete! This is my first year doing classic accuracy and the point of coming to this meet was to learn. In Edmonton there was no one around to learn from.
We got invited by some people at Pitt Meadows to go to the Abbotsford DZ for freely friday. A bunch of people from pitt fly over to Abby and jump in. We drove to Abby. Abby is defiantly one of the coolest DZs Ive been too, Awesome vibe, beautiful views a hanger that looks like its been around since the 50s. I love DZs like this! They have a gnarly looking porter, its painted camouflage and was from the australian military. Very cool looking plane!
Did a couple small stiffly jumps, something I don't do much of and they were a blast! Then we did a 9 way sunset tracking dive. Hung out after and had some beers and a BBQ.
The Abbotsford DZ is awesome! I defiantly hope to get back there someday!

July 17 sat
Time for the accuracy meet, time to learn. We did 7 Acc jumps that day and I was hit and miss on tuffet. Scored a 15cm on jump 2 and a 13cm and jump 5 or 6, all the others were a little short of the tuffet. Got some great advice from everyone else that was competing. Once jumping was done we went out to the local pub for dinner and drinks. Once everyone else had gone home for the night me and Matt decided to go check out some of the bars and ended up at a country bar/dance club. I love country bars, especially when I look like I belong in an underground punk bar. Nothing too exciting happened there, just hung out and enjoyed the scenery.

July 18 sun
Day 2 of the accuracy meet, did 3 more jumps today. First one was about a foot short of the scoring pad, jump 2 was 7cm and 3 was short of the tuffet. This meet was a great learning experience and a lot of fun. I'm finding classic accuracy to be very challenging and exciting to learn. Everyone else is very supportive and encouraging offering lots of good advice. Thanks to everyone at Pitt Meadows for the great weekend! I can't wait for the next meet!

Once we were done jumping for the weekend Matt and I planned on spending 2 more days in vancouver checking out the beaches. Sunday afternoon we packed up and headed back out to vancouver. My brother recommended we stay at the hostel on Jerico beach. When we got the to the beach the place was absolutely packed. The Vancouver folk festival was happening that weekend in the park right across form the hostel. We were sure the hostle would be full but luckily they had a couple of beds left so we had a place to stay for the night. It was too bad we didn't know about the folk festival before hand, I'm sure it would have been very cool to check out. Our buddy Ian, another Skydiver from our DZ was in Vancouver working so he came out and joined us for the night. While sitting around having beers and the hostel one of the older hippies staying there told us there is a huge drum circle down the beach after the folk fest wraps up. So we went for a walk don the beach and sure enough there were about 300 people partying on the beach around the biggest drum circle I have ever seen. There were people singing, drumming, tripping out, performing, dancing, smoking and drinking. We hung out at this party until about 3am having a great time relaxing and enjoying the event that is a drum circle on Jerico beach.

July 19 mon

Got up and shook off the hangover with about a gallon of coffee. Our plan for the day was to go hang out on Wreck beach. A clothing optional beach by the University of British Columbia. Matt and I headed out there around noon and Ian was to meet up with us later in the day. We got to wreck beach with all our gear for the day, cooler full of beer, blankets, towels, food, chairs. What we didn't know is that there are about 400 stairs on the trail down to the beach. So that sucked, still pretty hungover, sweating from the heat, hauling all our gear down to the beach. Found a good spot to set up camp, cracked a beer and lost my pants and spent the day drinking beer naked on the beach. Matt took his chair and took a few steps away from me. He wasn't to keen on nude beach idea. I on the other hand love nude beaches, sure there are some people that you would rather not see naked but thats just too bad. I would much rather enjoy the freedom of being able to walk naked down a beach in front of thousands of people who are doing the same thing that sit in a chair and not talk to anyone all day.
So I spent the day wondering around naked drinking beer talking to other naked people drinking beer, swimming in the ocean, playing frisbee and having a blast. Ian showed up later in the day and refused to get naked. So I enjoyed the fact that I was probably making my friends uncomfortable by laying around naked on the beach and that none of the naked girls seemed to be interested in talking with my friends. Later in the evening I ran into a local jumper that we had met that weekend at the DZ and invited him to join us. We sat around and talked about skydiving, the beach, work, and life. One of the vendors had an old round canopy set up as a tent and we went to investigate what it was. We couldn't tell much about it other than it was made in 1984 by a french manufacturer. The other jumper we ran into was a rigger and he told us it probably had a short production life and was used to my military for low deployments, explained the function of the vents and netting. It was pretty cool running into him on the beach, I enjoyed the conversation we had, and enjoyed the fact that my friends had to deal with another naked guy in the group. We decided to pack up and almost died climbing back up the 400 stairs with all our gear, at least this time the cooler wasn't full of beer.
We left the beach at sunset and took the bus back down to downtown vancouver for another nigh on the town. Ended up at the Roxy and watched some bands, met some girls from ireland and chatted with them for a while. It was terrible trying to understand everyone. I was the only Canadian at the table, Ian is british, Matt is from rural australia and the 2 girls were from ireland. Took a cab back from the hostel and passed out from the pure exhaustion of drinking beer all day naked in the sun.

July 20 Tues

Woke up and noticed Ian wasn't in his bed at the hostel, found him sleeping on the couch in the community room. It turns out he hadn't paid for the second night at the hostel and had gotten into the bunk room with us when we came back from the bar. He got up in the middle of the night to go to the washroom and found himself locked out of the bunkroom so he went and slept in the community room. We gathered up all our gear and Ian headed home to get ready to go back to work. Matt decided he was going to head up to whister to stay with some friends as he is running out of money and cant afford to continue on with the road trip. He said he might come catch up with me and come down to lost prairie with me. I hope he dose, Lost Prairie is defiantly an experience he shouldn't miss. So I dropped Matt of at the bus station and then Drove 5 hours east to Kelwona to meet up with my little brother. He is working at an orchard picking fruit for the summer. He is living in a one room cabin up in the hills at the orchard. From his cabin there is a great view of the city of kelowna and the Lake. There are about 50 french canadian girls working up here with him. I'm sure I am going to enjoy hanging out here for the week. They get done work at 1pm the head down to the lake to hang out.
