Drug-Free Solution for Dog Anxiety

Recommended Posts

The Thundershirt.

Has anyone tried one/heard anything about it?

It reminds me of Temple Grandin's squeeze machine.

When we first adopted our beloved mutt, I witnessed a full-on panic attack during a thunderstorm. It was brutal. He has since overcome his fear, but I remember that trip to the vet and the subsequent prescription for "doggie xanax" which we tried once and vowed never to give him again.

The "thundershirt" makes logical sense, but I no longer have reason to give it a try; just wanted to provide a can't-hurt-to-try alternative for those with a scaredy-mutt.

I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

My first rescue, Bug, had SEVERE separation anxiety and would bolt if you moved too fast or if you stomped on the floor. I used this http://www.rescueremedy.com/pets/ on her. Mostly during the first 6 months I had her. She would get a little "squirrley" at sunset. Must have come from her being dumped on the side of the road at 5 months.

Did WONDERS for her. But she is deaf and has no issues with thunderstorms (just had a BIG one roll through here tonight ... still rumbling after an hour). The floor vibrating or if you walk too heavy stlll makes her jump.

In theory, looks like a good idea. :)
