fijt01 0 #1 April 14, 2005 Hello, I have about 50 jumps and figured it was time to stop shelling out money on rental rigs. But when I got to the world of Canopies, I am at a loss. There are so many differently shaped, sized, celled and styles. I am about 230 at the door and want a canopy that I would be happy with for at least another 100 jumps or more, Don't know how yet but plan on learning the creative art of Swooping. Any suggestions? thanks
BillyVance 35 #2 April 14, 2005 I would suggest a used docile canopy (say a Triathlon or Spectre) with no higher than a 1:1 wingloading, something that you can use for 100 jumps or so, then downsize to maybe a 1.2:1 wingloading on a square, not an elliptical... By the time you have 500 jumps, then you might be experienced enough to start swooping... But then, that could be construed as conservative by some, and aggressive by others..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
FrogNog 1 #3 April 14, 2005 What canopies have you been renting? Have you talked to any of your instructors about what canopies they might recommend you buy when you get your own gear? One tip I have for being happy with a first canopy for 100 jumps or more is to buy used. The lower sticker price helps with the happiness down the road because you won't be as wedded to it. With 50 jumps experience, it can be really tough to know what you'll feel like in another 100 jumps. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
