katzurki 0 #1 April 13, 2005 My container was originally made for a PD 176, but looks like I'll have to go with a Smart 175. How actually different in volume the two reserves are when packed? (Like, maybe I could go a size bigger with the Smart.)

IanHarrop 42 #4 April 13, 2005 What I understand from this http://www.dropzone.com/files/archive/gear/Canopy_vols.html the PD-176R has a volume of 447 Unfortunately this list does not include the Smart line of reserves so when you compare it to what AeroDyne lists on their website for volume on the Smart products you run the risk of different measuring procedures giving different answers. IF everything is equal the AeroDyne site shows their Smart 190 has volume of 409 so it might fit. You might be best off to contact AeroDyne tell them what container you have and ask them what will fit."Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
katzurki 0 #5 April 13, 2005 QuoteCheck their web site. Sparky I know the numbers, and by published pack volume reference Smart 190 is a lot smaller than PD 176. However, numbers can deceive, so I was thinking maybe a rigger with actual experience with both could shed some light here. Jumpshack says they don't know how it will fit and suggested sending the canopy to them.
jsconn 0 #6 April 13, 2005 The container manufacturer decides what canopy fits in which container. You're buying a Racer so having us send the canopy to them to get the container built around it would be best. Call whoever you ordered the Smart through and tell them you want the canopy drop shipped to Jump Shack, they will take care of the rest. Thanks.Jody
cbennettjr 0 #7 April 13, 2005 Not sure if this helps but my Wings rig had a PD143R in it previously. Now it contains a Smart 160. Fits about the same. Wasn't any harder to get in the bag. chuck Canis meus id comedit
larsrulz 0 #8 April 13, 2005 I was going to say along the same lines that my Smart 150 is noticeably less tight than the PD143R that was previously with my main in the same container. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
katzurki 0 #9 April 14, 2005 I had a very good deal on a used PDR 176, but the deal apparently went off (the guy left to travel, and I haven't heard from him since). But my container has already been built (it's hilarious; wait till I get it packed and you see the pics!), hence the question. The instructor (incidentally, our DZ's chief rigger) has advised against putting in the Smart 190 though. So, Smart 175 it is.
BBKid 0 #10 April 15, 2005 No offence to the chief rigger in question, but if the container manufacturer say it's OK, then a rigger in the field should be able to pack it. Nick --------------------------- "I've pierced my foot on a spike!!!"
