Jerry Garcia (I think it was him anyway) once defined disco as "music with a beat so obvious that even white guys could dance to it". It wasn't that we really knew how to dance, or liked it, it was that we were actually able to."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." banesanura 1 #9 September 9, 2010 Ah. Well Feels just like it should has disco beats, but this song represents more of modern disco. Jamiroquai has been placed in a plethora of genres from acid jazz, soul, funk, and disco. Here are some that have more of a disco influencehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXyB12Okt68 and Little L http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hHSH9sJUEo Dude this shit is soo good. makes me wanna dance!Best Girl Scout Ever. MikeJD 0 #16 September 9, 2010 Hm. For once I'm glad I can't access YouTube at work - I've got a very low tolerance for Jamiroquai - but each to their own. Since we're on the subject of disco, I was watching a TV show the other night about the history of Blondie. It was talking about what a strong reaction there was against disco music back in the day - people holding rallies and burning records and stuff! And how Blondie's old CBGB pals like The Ramones criticised them for losing their 'integrity' when they really hit the big time with Heart of Glass. Funny how precious people get about music, isn't it? I try not to be a snob about it any more - whatever makes you move or gets an emotional reaction is good for you. Anyway, here's Heart of Glass from way back in 1979. That's classic disco for me - plus, I could just stare at Debbie Harry's mouth for ever... I hope that link's correct - I'm doing this blind! wolfriverjoe 1,523 #17 September 9, 2010 Link works fine, it just needs to be switched to 480 or 720 to get sound. Blondie was well ahead of it's (yes, it's - the band is Blondie, the singer is Deborah Harry) time in a lot of ways And I love how bands that reach success always get accused of "selling out". For the most part (manufactured stuff aside) they get big because they are good and know the business. And OH MY GOD - Boney M??? I havent' heard that song in... More years than I really want to admit. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." banesanura 1 #18 September 9, 2010 People get super sensitive about music. I remember in high school a kid got a STP tattoo on his arm. I asked him what happens when his tastes change because he was just 18 years old... Here's a bigger question...who had those polyester ball hugging pants? MikeJD 0 #19 September 9, 2010 Quote Yes, it's - the band is Blondie, the singer is Deborah Harry) I'd hope the only people who didn't realise that were either a) square at the time or b) not born yet! Quote And I love how bands that reach success always get accused of "selling out". For the most part (manufactured stuff aside) they get big because they are good and know the business. Agreed - I've heard The Eagles criticised by a lot of people because they were open about wanting to be commercial and successful - again, the myth of the 'sell out'. The reality is that just about every artist wants to write records that sell, and that in turn sell gig tickets. Being a musician, like being an actor, is more of a career (and less of a calling) than people like to imagine, I think.
