Beerlight 0 #1 September 9, 2010 I'm looking at a potential purchase of a 1976 Piper Warrior II, but it has 10,700 hrs TTAF. Plane looks in fantastic shape though... Is there a life limit or total time limit on the wing and/or structure? I'm early in the research, thought I'd check here first, go to Piper next. Thanks.... quade 4 #2 September 9, 2010 Generally speaking the airframes of small metal planes aren't life limited. Pretty sure that's the case in most of the Piper Warriors of that vintage, but you'd want to check with an A&P to make sure there's nothing specific about that exact make, model and year. Composites almost always life limited. Looks are nearly meaningless. It's pretty easy to paint an airplane. The thing you'd really be most concerned about is the time on the engine. Before sales, you'd want to pay to have an A&P inspect it just the same as they'd do for an annual inspection. Whatever it costs, is your burden, but more than worth it if you find issues. Do NOT just go on the seller's word that "it just passed its annual so you don't need to look at it."quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Beerlight 0 #3 September 9, 2010 Thanks Paul... It's coming up on an annual in Oct. Engine has 197 SMOH. Was an IFR trainer for many years, based in Houston. Have to make a run through the logbooks this weekend and see if anything jumps out. Appreciate your advice........
godfrog 2 #4 September 9, 2010 Pay the money and get an independant A/I to check everything out. And make sure there is no way he is connected to the seller. It will probably have to have a pre buy inspection anyway.Experience is a difficult teacher, she gives you the test first and the lesson afterward

LuckyMcSwervy 0 #6 September 10, 2010 You're doing something I dream of!! Good luck!! Actually, my dream involves a 1939 Ercoupe. My Dad had one (N99479) that he sold to someone around here and was going to buy another one shortly before he passed away in November. I WILL buy one at some point. If I could buy the first one back, that would be amazing!! He taught us all how to "fly" in that plane!! Always be kinder than you feel.

Would love to someday, they are so unique. I ran your N# through a database, and it didn't turn up a name. Although the N# could've been changed. If it's still in your area, maybe you can locate?!! I was just running the N again hoping someone didn't snag it for whatever reason. I think I may reserve it for $10?? I know it's at Millville Airport but the new owner had it painted white bosy with blue and yellow stripes, with the New Jersey State Police logo. The guy who bought it is a retired state trooper. When my Dad had it she was silver (polished like a mirror!!) and red, with the ceconite covering the wings. It was beautiful!! There was nothing like cruising along the beach with the canopy open. Great memories with my Dad!! Always be kinder than you feel.

Now that, would make it worth it right there. I've flown a Grumman, same deal, pull the canopy back, enjoy the wind in your hair

Rookie120 0 #14 September 10, 2010 I am an A/P with and I/A so I will help with what I can with what I have seen so far. QuoteI'm looking at a potential purchase of a 1976 Piper Warrior II, but it has 10,700 hrs TTAF. Fun plane to fly. Although 10,700 is a lot of hours. From things I have seen a plane can look great with a nice paint job but once I start diggin when I do an annual you will be surprised at the stuff I can find wrong. Get a pre-buy inspection done! Make sure all service bulletins and AD's are complied with. Time on engine, compression checks and stuff will al be done at that time. Are you gonna be a new pilot or student? If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

I'm definitely having a pre-purchase inspection but still the TTSN on the frame keeps me thinking, plus it's been a trainer for most of it's life. No, I'm not a new pilot, been flying for over 20 years, but just f'n finally getting around to buying my own Thanks for the advice, appreciate all your info. I may just hold on this one, there are PLENTY of planes for sale these days with the economy sucking. Most of my time is in C182's, and may just fork over the additional cash for one....
