I hate children!

I agree - people (women especially) who don't want kids get accused of all kinds of things... Being selfish, for example.

It is my gift to the world to destroy it less, and maybe improve what cannot be destroyed.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate kids... That being said, I don't consider myself to be childless but child-free. I never desired to be a mother until I was in a loving, caring, long-term relationship once and I felt really, really happy. But something in me told me something wasn't quite right, the relationship subsequently dissolved, and so did my desire to have children.

Is that not terrifying? that it feels right and ends up being wrong? what if you had one and half kids with this guy and then ended up divorcing and ruining the kids?

So I reckon under the right set of circumstances I could maybe one day want kids, but fundamentally it's not something I'm looking for. I don't think that makes me less of a person... At least I'm not the kind of person who would bring up children under any circumstances irrespective of whether or not I'm a "fit" parent! Better someone choose not to reproduce for the right reasons than someone choose to have kids for the wrong reasons, no?

You know what Nataly?

This thread reminded me of this clip from Family Guy. And for the record, I don't "hate" kids. I will, however, remove myself from the vicinity of them if they are around and avoid them if at all possible. At the very most Ill "put up with" my friends kids out of respect to them (my friends).

holy shit you convinced me.:S I think I am going to get it reversed tomorrow. :|

I'm not saying that those memories and miracles of human worm larvae are wrong, just, not my style.

I think of, all the time, what my father could have done if I had not been the burden of the prime years. maybe he would have been a pilot, like me. (his dream) maybe he would have traveled the world. but he did not. He worked 80 hour weeks and took the Bar. I understand that it was his choice, and he will never regret it. but what could he have done? does he never think about it?

Still, the idea that you could at 19 and I was "too young" at 25...

i knew a woman who tied her tubes at 26.

Early forties she adopted 4 kids. Not saying you, just saying it happens. But the person should make the decision, not the doctor.

I looked into the big V for me in my early twenties, but I'm glad I didn't do it.

Maybe, people have kids when they run out of other things to do. A lack of creativity. Or maybe it is some social norm, a predetermined activity required for the suburbs. Maybe it is biological and unavoidable. Maybe i am making a mistake by spending that 200-500k$ per child on traveling, fun, toys, and the future.

Whatever it is, there is not a day that goes by, for me, that does not reinforce the decision I made in 2005.

Not really, because I had a niggling feeling that there was something amiss, so I decided not to have kids. But it surprised the hell out of me that I might want kids under the right circumstances. It briefly showed me a different side of the coin, but I still think it's unlikely I'll ever have them, and for me that's not a bad thing. :)

I'm an active competitive swooper and my wife does triathlons...sure, we have run out of things to do.

No, then again I don't live in a "suburb."

Maybe some people want to have kids just to have kids? Maybe, just maybe, they bring a lot of joy into your life?

I'm not going to tell you to have children, but don't make assumptions about my life for starting a family.

No, it's no mistake at all. IMO people like you and me ( I do the same things with my money) are being EXTREEMLY responsible. Any time you deny yourself a good time you're just cheating yourself out of a good time, and call it selfish but I'm WAY to into me.

pretty sure I used the word maybe:P

is maybe a proposition? :)

It was the sarcastic tone you used with the "maybe.";)

there needs to be a sarcastic font. I would use it a lot. (and... you caught me):$

So, we have had lengthy discussions on how hard or possible it would be to put a baby back in. Specifically how fast the snatch tightens up after childbirth.

It had to of been done at some point in mid-evil history.

I was going to rant earlier...then decided not to....but I've changed my mind.....and sorry for this being slightly off topic.

I'm shocked that a guy can go get a vasectomy at the age of 19......but if a woman wants to get her tubes tied you are told no. I fought my OBGYN on it right after it turn 21 and was told no....I'm way too young...and what if you change your mind. I bet insurance even paid for yours.... /rant

I tried to get my tubes tied at 22 years old and my gyno said no way, that I will probably change my mind. I sure did, but when we tried it didn't happen. I then scheduled it last spring and then backed out. :|

I think there is a slight health risk with women and getting tubes tied. IMO I think it should be a requirement of all males to be rendered reversible sterile until they are capable and willing to raise a healthy child. But that is another issue.

My insurance paid for it, yes. But I had already maxed out my deductible for the year and took advantage of it. I thought there would be an issue convincing the urologist but he was on my side.

There was one phone call and one 15min outpatient visit. Doc did not even ask twice. good man.

Mine was done when I was 26 and cost $25 with insurance.

How many gynos did you see? It's a case by case decision. One might turn you down, but another will not.

I just went to one. She obviously knew what she was talking about because I did change my mind. I'm okay with that. ;)
