channel islands makes a really good surfboard by the way ;)

im assuming they are based there, haha ;)

I was not impressed with anything that approached any quality surf on the Channel while I was there. Now out by Point Conception.. SHIT:o:o.. I was doing some AWSUM surfing down 25' waves on my 36' sloop

noo. channel islands is a sufrboard company.

the channel surf prolly sucks. i kill for the chance to surf those kinda waves! i may head out that way just for the shot. . .

I get that ... really;)

The Channel refers to the Santa Barbara Channel...

There are supposed to be some waves there when the swell comes down the Channel from the west.. but otherwise the islands block it from the south..I hear some gets thru. I was not impressed with the coast to the west.... it seemed pretty deep then a run up onto a rocky coast.. where you get HUGE Kelp beds and then a rock bench....blech

There was some sand around Ventura.. probably some bars and subsurface structure out to Santa B but when I was there the wind was offshore flow... total blowout

I guess you could always try to surf the wake of the ships.... headed thru the Channel.. MAN that was some busy shit to sail thru and some of them wer tossing a NICE swell:S:S:S

oh.

well i agree with you there. i would totally prefer a sand beach vs coral with a kelp topper.

hate to say it, but ill take the sandy beaches of the east coast. ;)

Hold on now... if you REALLLY want BIG WAVE action.... I know a few places off the Washington and Oregon Coast... During the winter... you get shit like you have never seen before.. and MILES of sand beach. I know a few places where you can get a break for litteraly hundreds of yards:)

Its some cold shit.. water temps in winter are about.. oh 56 F.. ( its warmer than summer when the current comes out of the Gulf of Alaska when you get upwelling of some cold ass shit.. I have seen 48 degrees of the mouth of the Columbia River in July)

It takes some major brass ones.. you need a big wave board... and the best is offshore where a launching from a boat is best.. its a long way out from a beach launch.. but when you get there WHOA

Oh dry suit.. needed too.. but if you are down with 20' day in and day out... I know some rock reefs that have a curl that has to be seen to be believed.

A friend of mine always posts about his "meet ups" with a group here in Orlando. Looks like they have a group in Ventura, look here. Check it out and let us know how it goes!
