We started getting snow out here over the weekend. I was at Tacoma, WA REI last night and the Crystal Mountain rep told me that they got 8" on the summit over the weekend. Mount Rainier National Park is getting dumped on now as low as the Jackson Visitor center!! I haven't been this excited about snow in years!

Yet people still expect us to fix them if the do it again, then bitch because it still hurts, or doesn't work right. Yes, we're cautious, but you're right, we have to be.

What do you mean "almost"?
Loveland opened today.
Arapahoe Basin opens tomorrow.
:P

I drove over Loveland Pass the day Idaho Springs got its first snow (or so I was told). The view was awesome. Took a little hike up the snow-covered continental divide ridge for another 500 feet or so in elevation above the pass. Whoa, talk about getting hypoxic! :o:D

Had an awesome time in the Rockies. Did not want to go back home. Almost every damn night since I got back home, my dreams have involved the Rocky Mountains in some way.

To fully appreciate the altitude, you need to do this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Evans_Hill_Climb

I do the route a couple times each summer, but I don't race it.

I'm not a bike rider these days. Hell, my 21 speed bike has been in the attic for over 10 years! :S

We cheated when we went up to the summit of Pikes Peak. We took the cog railroad. No driving this time. It was a nice ride though. I wanted to run around the parking lot up there but it was covered with snow.

The only fauna I saw up there was this. It was kind of disappointing not seeing any bighorn sheep in the wild, but we never seemed to be in the right places at the right times. There were chipmunks that skittered right up to and over my hand at the Rainbow Curve look-out in the Rocky Mountain National Park where the road had been closed due to snow above 11K feet, and we saw bull and cow elks in the woods by the road one time
