Have You Ever Gotten A Trophy?

Recommended Posts

Quote

I had a few, I threw them all away after they lost their meaning to me.

That almost seems like another life ago.

I got a few trophies and plaques for boat racing. (I really preferred a check, but we seldom got them). I threw the trophies away after a few moves and I got tired of tightening the little nut at the bottom and dusting them. I kept the wall plaques. My son asks me why I tossed them and now I wish I kept the trophies. But I did take pictures of them at one point. Also got a few skydiving plaques. Oh, and a dart trophy. :)

How many people were employeed at that place? Did they seriously give out trophies to every one of you? That can get very expensive! :o

And the bronze medal is great! :)
And shhhh....if they want to think I'm a guy....it's okay. :)

Go Kart trophy? That's awesome! :)

The most paying jumps of the season, huh? How much did you spend that year? What is overall scoring?

And I LOVE the sailing picture! :D

I am 50 years old and I still think fondly of things I did even back in high school. While those things you won your trophies for might not be the most important things in your life now, they were important to you then. And helped to make you the great person you are now. Good job on earning them. :)
And thank you for defending me against the mean comment! :$

Awesome! :)
You don't have to display them. The memories about the effort you put into winning them and the joy you got when you won them are sufficient, I'm sure.

That's great! :)
I think being cheerful and nice are VERY important qualities. It takes a lot more effort to say/do nice things than mean things. ;)

I was a swimmer for 11 years growing up and earned quite a few trophies. . . . .One of them was the "teammate award". Basically, it's an award for being cheerful and nice.

First of all, you are cheerful and nice.:)
Second of all, swimmer babes are HOT!B|:o:$

My trophies? One baseball one from when I was a kid, and one skydiving one years ago for 1st place novice accuracy. I like a lot of sports, but I'm not that competitive. I do have a lot of nice awards from work and our sport for safety stuff. I'm happy with those. :)

WTG! :)
And perhaps we should make a "suck up to the mod" trophy for you too? I think you earned yourself some brownie points with those comments! ;)

That's Great! :)
Yup, our kids and grandkids are fascinated with things that we did in our "younger days." My mom didn't save from her past. Me? I have too much to share! :$

Yeah...you're sort of right.

I think that no matter what it's called, the whole purpose is to help someone feel good about themselves and their efforts/achievements, though. :)

How do you feel about the "every kid gets a trophy, no matter how much their team sucked" theory today? I wouldn't want an award even though I lost. It would be a cheap token of nothing. A person's achievements, even if it was simply achieving a personal goal, builds self esteem. It's never been something that could be handed to you.

I believe they had that policy when my son was in at least t-ball. He hates sports and sucked very badly at them. But back then, maybe those trophies were one of the best things that happened to the kids that sucked?

I agree that a trophy/medal properly earned is a great self esteem builder. Unfortunately, a lot of parents don't encourage their children to be "better people" and don't support any efforts towards performing outstanding achievements, though. And if you don't start learning to go that extra step to achieve extraordinary accomplishments when you're growing up, you don't normally try to do so as you grow older.

Years ago my youngest got one of those feel good trophies for hockey, he tossed it in the trash the minute he got it.

He rode the bench all season and he said he didn't want a reminder of how bad he was.

He's kept all the ones he 'earned' in HS for track and football...I was kinda proud of him for seeing the difference all on his own.

I had a whole mess of golfing trophies when I was a kid. When I stopped playing I kept all the name/event plates off of them and threw the trophies out. I think I still have them somewhere.

Trap/skeet and wrestling in high school and more recently skydiving have all been medals.

The only trophy (a small figurine on a base) that I still have is actually from work and I keep it on my desk.

Good job! :)
I've won "employee of the month"from various places I've worked, but never a plaque or trophy or anything like that. I think I might've gotten a pin from Bennigan's once as one of "Bennigan's Best." And when I worked at Cracker Barrel and I passed my "Par" tests, they gave me little folder thingies for each level. I still have them on my bookcase. But that was 15+ years ago. I don't even know if they do those any more.
