Rookie120 0 #3 November 25, 2010 I think it comes down to how much useless shit do you want your phone to do. I have an EnV touch. It does limited internet which I can book and look at flights which is what need most when I fly all the time. My wife has a Blackberry cause she needs more stuff for work with e-mail and stuff. Plus hers can be used overseas. Most smart phones will not work out of the country so if you travel a lot look into that.If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! If you don't like touch screens stay away from the iPhone and then Blackberries seems to be ok (wife has one). I live the Nokia's and have an N97 which is feature rich - but has software hangups and sucks batteries. Recently, my wife and I were told by our cell-phone co., we had to 'up-grade'. I told the lady that all we wanted or needed was just the bare minnimum phone. Just to make calls and maybe, recieve calls. We maybe, make 3 calls a month on our cell-phones. Well, the big day came and we got our new, up-graded phones. Those danged things will do everything but make toast! Not to mention... complicated! I guess, we just never stayed up with 'modern technology'.Chuck

Though it was decent phone (besides the fact that the battery discharged really fast in a day with barely any use) it just was not for me. I have had the iphone now for over a year and love it. It can do everything that I did with my Blackberry and a hell of a lot more. SkyDekker 1,465 #9 November 25, 2010 John, It all depends on what you want to use the phone for. If you are mainly interested in email/communication, the blackberries are almost untouchable. Nobody does email as well as Blackberry. plus Blackberry messenger blows any other mobile chat platform out of the water. If you are more into games, music etc, then you are more into the Iphone/android area.
Niki1 2 #10 November 25, 2010 How smart does a phone have to be? I made phone calls 50 years ago. Was that called a smart wire? That's all I need a phone for now. Not being tied to a single location is convinient. Better than looking for a pay phone. The address book is a handy thing to have but now I don't bother to remember phone numbers. Now do you want to chech e-mail, or create documents? That's not what a phone does. Computers are getting smaller. That's what you're talking about. See what's on You Tube? Surf the web? Play games online? Sounds like computer stuff. You can watch movies on a computer. How does "Gone With the Wind" look on a 5.5 inch screen? And the same guy who sells you that "phone" at Best Buy is the same guy who wants to sell you a 55" flat screen TV. And you can hook up your computer to that 55" flat screen. OK. You can't put that 55" sveen in youir pocket and go on your way. But even at home, you can't make a PHONE CALL on the TV. A phone is not smart. The one pushing the buttons needs to be smart enough to get it to do what the person wants it to do. A thermos bottle is smater than a phone. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. Louis D Brandeis Where are we going and why are we in this basket? cavscout73 0 #12 November 25, 2010 I am a big fan of the Droid incredible , had mine for about two months now . Not much it don't do , really worth look at . The only down side I can give it is battery life but I just had to learn to keep apps off I'm not using . I had a Windows phone before this and hated it .. it was cool for the fact that I could handle word docs and stuff like that but that's why I have a laptop .. My .02 take a good look at the Droid line ..
BIGUN 1,483 #13 November 26, 2010 Morning. Professor. Here's a comparison chart for your review since your statement about taste in smart phones is spot on. http://lifehacker.com/5575317/smartphone-comparison-chart-dishes-the-dirt-on-smartphone-specs You'll notice the tech specs are somewhat similar, but in comparing my iPhone with the droids find that the extra size in screen (20mm) is helpful for viewing.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. That chart is funny! It gives you the CPU fab details (65nm or 45nm) something that is pretty meaningless to 99% of the market and completely omits ALL details on the phone side. There is no mention of what frequencies bands (Quad band/Penta band etc) and protocols the phones support. So you know some useless detail about the CMOS fabrication of a single component in the design but not whether your phone will work in EuropeExperienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. Honestly I just found it funny that a couple of posts here have referenced the fact that a smart phone is a "phone" and they had no need for the frills. Then the comparison chart which is relatively detailed doesn't even mention the "phone" side of things. The Wikipedia comparison chart looks pretty detailed btw.Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

NickDG 23 #19 November 27, 2010 I've had a Droid X for about 4 months now. No issues with it and it does it all, and once I put the new higher capacity battery in it, it gets decent battery life. Plus it has Flash. NickD

The reason why many phones won't work overseas is due to Sprint and others using CDMA instead of GSM. Get a quad-band phone with GSM and you'll be good to go worldwide.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
boinky 0 #21 November 28, 2010 I just got an Epic from Sprint. I'm only in a 3G area, but it is capable of 4G speeds. I love this phone!!! It has a virtual keyboard, but has a feature called "Swype." It also has a pullout keyboard, but I have hardly pulled it out as the swype feature is so cool. Like everyone else, I'm more into the apps than I am at actually using the phone part. I guess I don't have enough friends/family or something. You can also enable something called a "hot spot" on this phone. It is an extra charge, but can opt to not enable this feature and not have the fees. The concept is that it will power other wi-fi technology. I've only used my DS on it so far, but it worked fine. The only down side I've found so far is the battery life, but I've heard that you can buy extra batteries, though. Nina Are we called "DAWGs" because we stick our noses up people's butts? DSE 5 #25 November 28, 2010 I bought the DroidX. Tried various versions of iPhones several times. Aside from the fac that it doesn't work at my Utah home, and barely works at my Lake Elsinore home...I gave up. Very happy with the X. I also bought the Samsung Fantastic for my daughter, and it too...very nice. Most iimportantly, they both actually make phone calls, which my iPhones couldn't do.
