..for a Win7 machine. I'm doing a complete reinstall and want to put on a few versions on there so I can test websites in various browsers. But for my main browser, which browser takes up the least amount of resources, less prone to crashes, etc?

DL IE 9.... you will love it I have been using it for.... MONTHS:)

I'm curious- how does it compare to
-Firefox?
-Chrome?

No. But that does happen in other areas of my life.

It's a good browser. Single key function for back and forth; speed dial function that can be customized; etc.

I've used Opera in XP and now on Windows 7. It is the one that does what I want for my surfing: NSFW, et al.

I use Google Chrome as it is simple clean and fast. I used to use Firefox but moved over a couple of years ago so I can't comment on recent changes that may have happened.

I use IE when I have to - which is only really accessing MS Outlook over the web. IE is SLOOOW compared to Chrome and tends to have more security flaws that are exploited.

Seconded. Chrome is the shiznit! While it's still new and occasionally has its quirks (Java doesn't work too smoothly... yet), I prefer it over IE, Safari, and FF.

And's what all this noise about Safari being available for Windows machines? Weird.
Come, my friends! 'Tis not too late to seek out a newer world!

Opera.

dittos! In the three years I've been using, i've never and I mean this seriously that I have never had a problem with it. When I get around to moving uP to some kind of smartfone, my browser in it will also be OPERA mobile.

Anyone like ESET for PC security and viral protection?

IE9 copies a lot of ideas from Chrome. Having said that it does them well. FF used to be king of the heap but no longer, unless you are a developer. Forget IE8/7 - they are pretty much junk (not standards based). At the moment, Chrome is on top IMO, but IE9 is improving fast. Looks like MS might finally be starting to understand the web.
