Recommended Posts

Still trying to edit & organize my pics but here are some, if anyone is bored! :)
My better 1/2 ran the Athens Marathon the 'original' route, the 2500th anniversary OF marathons...this one was her 25th 42k run.

I watched!

I'm sure it must be depressing to see the state of disrepair into which it has fallen, having been there when it was all built.[:/]

I'm thinking 'Twardo is going to have a lot of 'splaining to do to some redhead when she finds out he took a blond to Greece.B|

Ya can change the paint but the horsepower stays the same!

Did she deliberately change the color, or is it sun-bleached?

Hi jimmy~

We were there for two weeks, did most of the major tourist sites. As you can see from the pics THIS is the time of year to go...after tourist season, it's cooler, cheaper and a lot less people.

Driving there was...'interesting' so say the least!

There are a few opinions on Phidippides, some say the "Rejoice We Conquered" quote before expiring is a myth since it wasn't 'recorded' until centuries after the event...I think it's possible, lotta hills on that run! :S

The Olympic flame pics are from where all the Olympic torches are lit for every set of games worldwide.

And yeah, like the ruins in Rome, seeing Athens up close and personal ~ just takes your breath away! B|

Some of the same reasons we like to travel in the off season. It gives you a chance to experience the country more as the locals do than as the yokels do. :)

plus you get to swim and hang around the beaches nekkid much more easily; i recommend the small islands, not crete or the other big places. some have monasteries well over a 1000yrs old and still habitated, some have ruins like the ones shown in your pictures..

and there's something about cruising on a ferry through foggy waters and see little bits and pieces of rock out in the distance, all bare..

i did a tour of like two weeks, and only booked the flight to rhodes and went from there. once you get off the ferry, half the population is waiting with brochures of their places they have to rent. we were not even out of the airport and we knew where we were gonna stay the next couple days, the guy was a taxi driver, so the ride was free too! and it's pretty cheap that way, you pay around 45$ for two persons a night, no meals tough..

and, it's a little adventerous, too! :)

That's how we tend to travel too...

We book the 1st night so we have a place when we land, rent a car, break out the 'Lonely Planet' for that country and hit the road!

i HATE the places that tell you, breakfast is from 6:30 - 8:00, because then there's the next group in.. and all places to lay on are taken by five in the morning already! :|

That's how we like to travel, low key and no reservations. Our last good trip over to Europe we did Italy for two weeks, never in one place more than a couple of days. Next time to France, though, I want to find a place close to Paris to rent for a month. :)

make sure to include a trip to corsica, i LOVED that place! i guess i just have a thing for islands, and ferries.. being a PIRATE n'all! B|
