NWFlyer 2 #2 December 23, 2010 Hmmm... I've been in my current apt for 2 1/2 years now and I can't recall if I've cleaned mine (it was brand new when i moved in so it was definitely clean then). Though I cook a lot, I probably use my oven to cook once a week on average. And I guess most of what I do cook in the oven is pretty self-contained... but I definitely don't want sparklers in my oven!"There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. skymama 37 #9 December 24, 2010 I'll notice it when I pull something out and think, "I need to clean that" and then I won't give it another thought until I take something out of the oven again. That said, I actually just did it yesterday. With everything else, I'm very much a neat freak. I just tend to do most of my cooking on the stove, so I forget about needing to clean the oven. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
pinkfairy 0 #10 December 24, 2010 Mine isn't self cleaning. Don't give me ideas: I'm a female bachelor, I haven't done a thing with my appartment since I got it: I take out the ice of the freezer when I can't get food into it because it's all frozen over, that's it. I've got fast internet and a big fish tank. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you? Sapphire 0 #13 December 24, 2010 Funny, I just attempted to do this yesterday. I have a self-cleaning oven and the minimum cycle time is 3 hours. My oven rarely gets used - but I figured since I was home - I may as well do it. (Plus, the inside glass and right along the edge had some spatter.) I had to shut it off after about an hour and ten minutes... the smell - UGH! Even with the sliding glass door open and the vent running on high I couldn't stand it! I'd really just rather scrub the damn thing! So, to answer your question... not often enough apparently, and that will not be changing in the future! JENNR8R 0 #14 December 26, 2010 I have a 'continuous-clean' oven that never needs cleaning. They don't make those types of ovens any more so I keep this one even though it looked bad on the outside when I moved into this house 11 years ago. What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday. JohnMitchell 16 #15 December 26, 2010 We have a gas stove, electric oven dual fuel. I take the stuff off the top, throw it in the oven and run the clean cycle about once a year. We cook A LOT, so should probably do it more often, but we try not to be to messy/sloppy in the oven, and kind of clean as we go.
guppykf 0 #16 December 26, 2010 I agree!...the smell is atrocious, but hand cleaning after going to long is DISGUSTING, like pulling bacon grease from a pan that sat for years! However, from all these comments I dont feel so bad now. I guess cleaning the doggone thing is like gaining weight, you dont notice it as it goes along then one day you go damn I'm as big as a house!
